My main guitar has always been a cherry sunburst Les Paul standard which I love, the guitar has burstbucker 1 and 2 pickups and sounds great> I recently aquired a heritage h150 in vintage sunburst> I must say both guitars are great guitars. The heritage came with seymour duncan 59 pickups and also sounds great> A little nore trebly than the gibson but still a nice solid feeling guitar. As for the feel of the guitar, both necks feel identical and are very comfortable the weight is roughly the same on both. The fit and finish on the heritage is excellent> The only difference is the heritage is made up of a two piece mahogany back vs a one piece for the les paul> Not all heritage H150 are made this way and most have a one piece back as well. It is my understanding some of the les paul standards and classics also have 2 piece mahogany backs. Tonewise still sounds great> AS a result I must say heritage are definatly a viable alternative to Gibson when it comes to les pauls if someone wants a quality les paul at a cheaper price.

Anyone else play both??

I've played both and personally tend to the Gibson but that's purely on aesthetics if comparing a non-Historic Standard to a Heritage. I just don't like the Heritage headstock.

Now if you were to compare a R-series to them I'd take the R-series hands down 90% of the time.

I have an H535, which is their 335 type. I find it to be very much an equivalent to a Gibson 335 (some minor differences between the two). Since the Heritages are cheaper than their new/used Gibson counterparts, I found it hard to justify getting the Gibson. The prices on the Les Pauls/H150 are a bit more comparable so maybe more of a toss up there.

FWIW, most of the time I see Heritage H150s advertised as 1-pc honduran mahogany backs.

People bring up the headstock...I think it's one of those things that's easy to be picky about when staring at the guitar on the web, when you get your hands on the guitar in person and can appreciate the quality of the instrument, it's a minor isssue. I don't think it's a great looking headstock, but I rarely even think about it.

Headstock fetishes I've never understood.
:p
:idk: I would like to know if the Heritage actually sounds like a good Les Paul. Specifically the woody tone in the bass and the sparkly treble.

well I' like to hear both with the exact same pickups, as I said the heritage is a bit more trebly than my les paul standard but still a very full bass sound> I would tend to think the difference is more in the pickups than the guitars themselves as they have similar weights, and woods etc.
