Ive played a few rics, but I never noticed this. Lighter, looks pretty damn cool.

Doesnt seem to be a popular model. How are they, soundwise and playwise. Looks kind of light..

620's are awesome. Paul Westerberg's 620 12 string got sold at my friends store last week.

I used to have this 1983 620

I love my 620. I play it a lot, and it sounds good through just about any amp. Don't let the size fool you. Maple is a heavy, dense wood, and this thing is almost 100% maple. Mine is heavier than my considerably larger 360/6 and 650 Dakota. But it's a classy player with exceptional clarity and with a set of Hi Gain pickups, it will easily drive an amp pretty hard. Very comfortable on the strap, but the thin neck is not for everyone. I have no problems playing leads or fingerpicking mine, but if you have big mitts, you might want to go with a 650 or a 660 with wider necks.

I have one of these in jetglo, it is a brilliant little guitar. Definitely needs the right amp, i am using mine through a HRD, sounds pretty good to me.

The R tailpiece is an absolute pain, totally puts me off restringing. I tend to put all the strings in the right place on the tailpiece when it is upside down, then wrap the whole thing in electrical tape. That way the strings can't drop out of the bottom, and you can restring pretty easily. Peels off and doesn't leave a mark either!

Awww, man...this thread is making my sad.

I had one for a few years. Awesome guitar; sounded great clean, and really gnarly and gnashy dirty. Easy player, too.

Sold it when I had some money troubles.

Don't think I'd ever spend that much money on a guitar again.

Bye-bye, Ric.

I had a 620 and it was killer. The only things about it that could turn someone off would be the neck, it was not the widest across and there were some snug fingerings, and the fretboard is thickly finished, which takes a little getting used to.

Great guitars, pickups and electronics are really versatile, surprisingly so.

I have an 83 in jetglo. It is a brilliant little guitar. Sounds great through just about any amp - loves the clean, but sounds great with some distortion.

The R tailpiece is pretty easy once you get used to it. I just change them one at a time, and it's pretty simple.

As others have mentioned, the thin neck and short scale can be a turn off. After a long time as my number one, it mostly sites in the case behind the Jaguar and semi-hollow.

I like my 620 a lot. Not sure why they're not as popular as some of the 300 series. It's quite thin and light, bends/leads can be a smidge difficult due to the narrow neck, but it's not really intended for shredding. Tone is pretty bright and kind of it's own thing. Tailpiece is kinda a pita, but I find most tailpieces are.

I had a chance to pick up a beater blue one for four hundred bucks, 5 or 6 years ago, but was flat as a floogie and sussed my side band lead singer to it; it's since become his main guitar. A few years later I got an even better deal on my red one-- karma, baby. Here's them both being played at the same show:

Had one and loved the tone, but the neck was a real soda-straw. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of 24-fret necks. Yes, the R tailpiece is a bit of a bitch, but if you change your strings one at a time it's not a problem. Cool guitars - much more versatile than one might assume.
