My wife is looking for a lighter electric guitar to play - Fender Mustangs, for example are nice and light.. are there any other decent enough guitars out there that wouldn't be too heavy in weight? Even Squier stuff, as long as the build quality is decent enough, etc.... thanks!

My PRS SE Soapbar II is by far the lightest guitar I own. It's a great quality guitar, and cost $450 new.

I was going to say SE Singlecut Korina. It almost floats in my hand. Bathroom scale says 6.6 lbs. One of my favorite guitars, and I've got instruments many, many multiples of the price.

So many to choose from. Here are a few more to add to the list.

Squire Classic Vibe Strat

Malden Bulldozer

Luna Aquarius

Luna Paisley TLE

Epiphone Willshire

The Squire Classic Vibe series are definitely great values.

We have a Luna Sol Aquarius and it's a pretty nice guitar and fairly light although not quite as light as a Strat.

If you can get past the looks the Malden Bulldozer is very light and a great playing/sounding guitar (mine comes in right about 6 lbs).

Never plugged a Willshire in but they are definitely light.

And depending on what you mean by midrange, the Gretsch Electromatic Corvettes are also very light.

Just get a hardtail Strat. My Mustang definitely feels heavier than my hardtail Strat, probably because poplar is heavy and because hardtail Strats don't have that metal block.

Also, there's no Mexican Mustang, a new one will cost you $939, though you can often find used for half that.

The Ampeg AMG100s that Sam Ash is blowing out for $270 are well-made and super lightweight:

Ampeg AMG100

Two things you should know about them, though: 1) like a lot of lightweight guitars, they're neck-heavy and tend to dive, 2) they have only a bridge pickup, which limits the range of tones they can produce. And there's one apparent advantage that isn't one--the swappable pickup system is a great idea, and I wish it had caught on, but it didn't, and the only replacement pickup out there is a single-coil from Ampeg, which I've never actually seen for sale. So, if you don't like the tone the stock humbucker produces, there's nothing you can do about it.

Epiphone Wilshire comes in under 5 lbs on my scales, and the mini humbuckers make a great sound. Costs under $400. Squier classic vibe thinline is about the same weight, and same cost. Completely different sound. Depends on what you're going for.
