Members guitarcat46
I'm looking for a new combo amp for home use. Right now, I'm considering the Roland Cube 40x, and the VOX VT20+. The Vox is $169, and the Roland is $199. Which of these would be good for progressive rock, and metal? Is there another amp in this price range that would be a better choice? I do like the fact that the Cube has a looper, but that's not a deal breaker. I have heard issues with the VT20+ making a hissing noise, and wondering if that's ever been corrected? There are all different kinds of Metal tones, but I'm thinking something that would be able to cover Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power. As far as the progressive rock stuff goes, think classic Rush, or Dream Theater's Awake album. I'm mainly playing covers right now, so having a wide range of tones is a good thing! Members mout
I'd go for a Line 6 Spider.
Members SnowViking
Fender Mustang II ? Although the Roland has better hi-gain tones you can re-program the mustang from the factory settings.
Members kayd_mon
I like Valvetronix amps. Nothing wrong with the Roland Cubes, though.
Members mister natural
Cubes rock - light, sturdy, loud, excellent tones - what's not to like ? Especially with the street price of the 40xl down to $200 - I paid $250 for my beloved 30x three years ago You want that amp
Members SpaceProg
With prog, just about anything that makes a sound is usable. I'd recommend though: Laney, Line 6, Mustang IV or V... Actually any modeling amp would be helpful. Roland and Vox are good choices too, I agree.
