Man, these poor people have caught pure hell today and now it seems like the Fukushima plant may have a core meltdown in hours. I'm trying to find a good source to back up the talk, but some are saying in 3 hours. I did find a news site that reported that this plant has been leaking radioactive steam all day. This means whatever leaks out or meltsdown will follow the jet stream and will head across the Pacific, to the US. Let's hope there is no meltdown, it would effect all of us. It won't take long to circle the globe. Chernobyl wasn't this bad.

There are plenty of main stream news links and here's some I found quick:

looks like an explosion just happened there.
looked pretty powerful.
commentators are saying it looks like steam from the coolant system damage and they are monitoring radiation levels.
Hope the core is intact even tho the building is damaged.

reporting in from down here to up there...come in Hokkaido...can you read me?...

was just waiting for this HUGE after shock to stop before posting in the thread...{censored} me...is this just gonna go on forever or what. Yeah, we made it but these after shocks are really getting to me, even my wife...who often just rolls over during a quake at night is on edge now...she was ready to head for the door with this after shock. yesterday was a day I`ll never forget and thats for sure, never been so scared {censored}less...good thing too `cause we didn`t have running water for 24 hours...got it now but no gas...I mean I got G.A.S. but no gas for cooking and the phones are still {censored}ed up. But could be worse...my sister in law`s parents are missing...their village disappeared yesterday in the tidal wave and they have not been in touch nor are their names on evacuation lists..but like I say the phones are down so we`re hoping they are just stranded somewhere...trying to stay positive here...so yeah, some of my guitars took a ride across the room, we had to clean up some broken dished `n stuff but all in all I consider us lucky...lucky to still be here `cause there are so many missing people, we were fortunate this time. Seems we are part of the very few to have power today...lost it last night and many still don`t have it in the city now...we`re close to the commercial area and maybe the local gov`t decided to get this part up first so folks can shop and buy supplies, not sure but I`m grateful. I prepared an emergency bag after the great Hanshin quake in `95...I saw how little the gov`t did for those folks that I did not want to depend on anybody else for food and water so we stocked up...could have hung on at least another 3 days I reckon. I noticed today walking around how quite people are...waiting in lines at shops it was eerily quite, many people but everyone seems to be in shock or something...no talking or very subdued....maybe they all have more pressing things on their mind. Same thing right after the quake yesterday, everybody was out in the streets but it was real quite except for shop alarms and distant sirens...spooky almost.

Still, we`re here and breathing...who could ask for more eh.

really, really good to hear you're alright bud.

I was out today helping with the cleanup. All roads east and west out of town are still closed, but I managed to get through one set of blockades this afternoon and check on a couple of people. In the next town over, there's fairly substantial damage - it's a fishing town, so it's all low lying. Everyone got evacuated, but a few of my friends are going to have to rebuild from the sound of it. Couldn't get in today, cops said maybe tomorrow the road would be cleared for travel. I know what you mean about the eerie silence. Here, it's just been tsunami sirens. People I know who had serious damage to their places are almost embarrassed to mention it because it seems so minuscule in comparison.

Shoot me a PM if there's anything you need or any way I can help out. Probably nothing I could do even if I tried at the moment, but sooner or later the takyubin will be up and running. stay safe.

Just logged on this morning and reading this. Good to see zenbu's alright. Sad thing to read and see in the news. Some of the worst devastation imaginable. I'm getting ready to pony up and donate to the Red Cross momentarily. It also would be great to even see some kind of raffle/sponsership come out of HC. If so, I'm in for that too.

Oh, I just thought of someone else. Seifukusha used to post here in EG but I haven't seen him do so in a while. Anyone heard if he's OK?

I just woke up and heard the news, this is terrible. It's a lot worse than they are telling us, I heard that NBC (MCNBC) was even denying there was a problem, ya know why? GE owns NBC and GE made the reactor at that plant. This is why corporations should not own television. I hate to say this but whatever they're telling you, it's a hellava lot worse.

I'm glad to hear from our friend zenbu (and you too aclarke), God be with you and your families. May Father's love keep us all in a safe place during these times.

thanks folks...still watching the news and oddly, theres very little on the reactor...it`s all about the quake and tidal waves, lots of video on those but not as much as say the BBC and American networks are reporting so I really don`t know whats going on with that, it`s all very fuzzy perhaps not by accident, could be they don`t want people to panic. Some networks here are talking of the reactor but nothing new, seems to be stuff they mentioned before, a few hours ago so guess we`ll just have to wait and see.

He hangs out pretty regularly in HCFX. As I recall I don't think he's in Japan now...could be wrong though.

Glad you're OK Zenbu, theres a reasonable amount about Fukushima on NHK World, as they are the feeds that the BBC are using, I haven't watched CNN.
