Members vmanmurph
I currently own an SD. I have used it for about 5 years now. I am thinking of trading/selling to get a Godin LG. Is this a step up or a lateral move? Thanks Frank
Members chqtarzan
Which LG are we talking about? It's likely a not-so-big step up. I would highly recommend a LGX, which is a big step up.Are you sticking to the single cut body shape? If not the session, progression are all worth checking out. Members Bluesidae
I think it would be a 'change'. I think the SD gives me more of a strat sound (even with the 24 3/4 scale). The LG, with the Hmb in the neck, gave me more of a Les Paul sound. Since I prefer to use the neck, I preferred the tone of the LG. The LGX would be a bigger change. The biggest difference would be the longer scale. I believe the LGX has synth tracking? If you like the Godins (which I do), I would consider the Summit or the Icon series. Members mike42
I have an SDxt and an LG (p90), and I tend to agree with Bluesidae. The LG will be different than the SD, but not necessarily better. Seems to me that the LG is more of a "one trick pony" tone-wise. If you like it, you'll be happy, if not, you won't. At one point I had considered upgrading the pickups on my SD. I ended up moving on to another guitar, but I still think that's worth considering if you really like the SD. If you tried that you would need to figure out how to mount the new pups, since Godin uses a kind of odd mounting technique.
Members bsman
Are you looking at the P90 or HB version of the LG? Big difference there... I had an LG-SP90 for about five years (just sold it for what I bought it for...) and found it was a good tone machine, but was by far the heaviest guitar I owned. Members Dogsinotpalc
Not an owner, but I love their guitars. My big want from them right now is actually a Richmond, the Empire: 24 3/4 scale, Mahogany neck...here's teh link: http://www.richmondguitarscanada.com/empire.html It's gotten great reviews and is relatively cheap, about the same price as the SD with a veneer top. It's like and affordable Taylor solidbody, but better looking...to me at least. It comes in other colors, I just like the Natural Raw SG (semi-gloss). AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzziiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg Horrible looking instrument for my tastes, but in every clip I've seen they sound quite good. If they had stayed more in the Mosrite realm and avoided the Mosrite/Rickenbacker mashup I'd be a lot more interested. But the Richmond line is very unique and compelling. Members germanicus2112
The XTSA is also a nice guitar, and not as expensive as the LGXT or LGXSA series. Its really an incredible value for the money (H-S-H) pickups, piezo bridge with a great active eq/preamp, 13 pin synth access output, floating trem, locking tuners, and ebony fingerboard. Ive owned the xtsa and an lgxt (sold the lgxt to get a JT Variax), but can imagine getting another godin in the future. They are really great values.
