Members dres_x
Hi guys, 1) Could you please help me ID what kind of wood this body is made out of? 2) Originally I was planning on putting just an oil finish on this thing, but now I've decided that I want to dye it first. Is it alright to put an oil finish on it after dying it or should I go for some kind of poly? Thanks!
Members Becker Guitars
looks like alder, though it can be hard to tell. an oil finish over a dye should be fine.

Members Doctor49
I usually use google images and search for wood types. You can then compare grain types yourself!

Members dres_x
yeah the neck pocket is a bit strange...I got this from someone but my plans are to fill in the holes and do a standard 4 screw mount
Members PrawnHeed
I can't imagine what that neck pocket is about Drug smuggling?
Members webwarmiller
Never seen such a neck pocket, but I can image some 'male' pieces of wood on the neck's heel that would fit into the 2 routes to correctly position the neck (mortise and tenon) Then just use the provided 2 screw holes to hold it in place.
