Members danswon
Is one coil usually hotter than the other one? that's the only reason i can think of why turning a 'bucker the "wrong" way round could be beneficial
Members Darkstorm
I dont think so. However the pole peices on one are higher of course on most. Esp those with chrome tops where 2nd set of pole pieces are underneath the top. As we all know adjusting pole peice height affects tone and volume a little bit. Higher normally means brighter and louder.
Members Elias Graves
Depend on the pickup. Gibsons, for example, use both formulae. 57 Classics are evenly wound, per original spec, while Burstbuckers have the active coil hotter. Gives more "bite."According to Seth Lover, the decision to install humbuckers the way they are was purely arbitrary. It wasn't until production asked the question "Which way do they go?" That a decision was made. Flipping one might change the sound a little, but because you have changed the area of the string's arc you're reading. Members PunkKitty
Some buckers are wound symmetrically. Some are wound asymmetrically. It depends on the pickup. You can check the output of each coil if the pickup has a 4 wire lead and you have a voltage meter.
