Members chriscnb
Are all 500k volume pots pretty much the same? Or are some faster in the way they turn? Let me clarify, a volume pot went bad in my PRS and I switched out the pot for a 500K, but the pot said 500K-B or something along the lines of that. I read somewhere that the B actually means it's a tone pot (confirmation?). Anyway, the pot moves pretty slow and isn't good for on the fly quick volume changes. If I get another regular 500K pot (no B) will it be quick turning like the old volume knob or the speed knobs on my PRS? Sorry for the dumb question, just wondering if all pots are created equal. Members Elias Graves
Do you mean slow turn as in physically or in slow to react? Audio taper pots commonly used for volume controls don't go straight from 0-10. They start out slow then ramp up quickly from 6-10. You may have put a linear taper pot in there, which will seem to react less to turning it. EG
Members chriscnb
Right, I need an audio taper pot. I'm wondering if all audio pots are the same in the way they turn (if that makes sense)? Just looking for the old speedy knob that used to be in there and don't wanna shell out $28 for a pot from PRS. Thanks for the response.

EG Sorry I wasn't clear, physically slow...not taper wise, but my hand actually turning the knob is slow. I used to (and can w/ my Singlecut) be able to turn the volume to 10-0 in a split second...now it's more difficult especially when sweating on stage. Members wartoxin
500K-b does mean linear not audio. It may seem like on or off, no in between. Many guitars have them installed stock though. About the speed/difficulty turning, i've heard several things about it, but I think mostly just different brands are different. I'm ok with Alphas. Members Bruce Bennett
what you had was a stand audio taper pot.. what you replaced it with was a Rotationally dampened audio taper pot.. Go find a bourns Standard Low torque pot and you'll be back to happy as a clam. If you need one I have them. Just email meBEML@comcast.net
