Members docjeffrey
I think I posted an ode to the mighty Classic awhile back. I'm sad to see this great model replaced by the "Traditional", but I'm sure that Gibson sold thousands upon thousands of them and we'll see them around for a long time to come. So, long live the Classic, Classic Plus, and Classic Premium Plus. Tell us about your Classics. Year? Mods? Repairs? $$? We want to know all the gory details. This 2000 Classic has Duncan Custom Shop 55 Lovers with 50th Anniversary engraved covers. They are hand signed by Seymour. It also has Historic Spec pickup surrounds and pickguard, Sprague caps, and CTS pots. American Musical Supply, $1299, bought new. One piece mahogany back. 9 pounds straight up. You can see where the rivet from the right pocket on my Levis has worn a hole in the back. I had the lacquer re-flowed across the spot (nitro is great stuff!). Of the four LP's that I own, this is my #1. 2000 Les Paul Classic Plus. Since I took the top pics, I have replaced the bridge pickup with a EVH relic pickup, hand signed by Eddie himself. It also has Speed Knobs, Historic Spec pickup surrounds and pickguard, and Sprague caps. $1799 from American Musical, bought new. One piece mahogany back. 9.2 pounds. Notice how smooth and satiny the back of the neck is. That's simply from playing it a lot for 10 years.

Members Brian Krashpad
Mine is a '99 LP Classic. It's stock except for the bridge pickup, which eventually died. The bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan Custom 5. Both pickups have a cream "Bobbin Topper" on them to make them look zebra, when in fact they are both all-black. I bought mine used for $750 w/ohsc in then-minty condition.

Members Mister Crow
I've been looking for a LP guitar, and have tried several Standard and Historic R8's lately. While I liked most of them, their necks felt nice, except the width felt a bit narrow. This weekend at the Philly guitar show, I tried a LP Classic from around 2001 and the neck felt very comfortable because it seemed to have some extra width. Was this my imagination, or does the LP Classic line have a bit extra width to their necks? For years I thought I needed a chunky neck for my longer fingers, but I now believe it's extra width that makes a neck most comfortable for me.Perhaps the often overlooked Classic line is for me. Members ashasha
Another GOW #27. Absolutely love it. Only mods were adding pickup covers. This picture shows the wrong bridge pickup cover so it looks funky; I've since fixed it.

Members StratoSlacker
LP Classic in Honeyburst. Now has a Pearly Gates in the bridge and an Alnico II Pro in the neck. Sounds so great. The new pups are Zebra. Bought it for cheap from MF last year.

Members flummox
1998 Premium Plus. Some idiot tried to lighten it by drilling two dozen or so holes in the pickup and body cavities with a 1/4" hand drill - thereby destroying it's collector's value while removing, at most, 2-3 ounces of weight. Can you imagine hogging out your brand new $3500 limited-edition guitar with a fucking drill? Looks, sounds and plays brilliantly though, and it was cheap. Oh yeah, it's got Duncan Antiquities. Members sk8centilli
Mine is a GC Special Run Doublecut (now officially named "Doublecut Classic" and only available in Japan) and, although it's not classified as a "Classic", it has booger inlays, aged binding, amber top-hats, and 60's slim-tapered neck -- so I'm posting it. Sounds like gibson's early way of chambering bodies. That's actually what I thought at first - Gibson's legendary QC and all, but no, it's definitely been Bubba-ized. Happily, there's no external evidence anything was done, and it's not a structural problem. It's fine - it's exquisite actually. I just can't believe anyone would possibly think that was a good idea. Members ten56gibby
I bought one that looked a lot like that. Was a flame top LP Antique in Trans Red. I took it back the same day and returned it. Used the money to buy an engagement ring for my (for now) wife. I still regret returning it. It was perfect. Members Dthraco
2003 Honey Burst Les Paul Classic. Bought new at Guitar Center Seattle for $1,400 out the door. I sold an '84 Ford Ranger to buy this guitar. It's my #1. Has Planet Waves Trim-Loc tuners, and Burstbuckers. Have since removed the pickguard, because it's way sexier that way.
