Members uab9253
I interviewed him for my radio show and I'm such a fan, but darned if I could get a really interesting story out of him. He's obviously not comfortable doing interviews. He was super nice and we were only supposed to have 15 minutes and we were still going 30 minutes in, but I finally wrapped it up. I grew up down the road from Capricorn records - the label that the Dixie Dregs were on and wanted to talk about them. I would have thought he would have been stoked about that instead of talking about Deep Purple all the time, and he was okay talking about it but I just didn't get any really good stories. I wasn't looking for drugs & {censored} stuff either, but... At the end of the interview, even though my show is a general 70's music themed show, I totally went straight into a Guitar World type interview- asking him about his picking technique and tucking the pick under his index finger and doing the weird claw finger pick but he was still just not super wordy. He was terribly nice though and enthusiastic about chatting and I'm a huge fan, so that was the awesome part! I've had about a dozen interviews in the last six months and it's always surprising to find out who the nice ones are versus the assholes. Luckily there have been few assholes - but it's hard to meet someone you've looked up to, spend an hour with them on the phone and learn they are complete dicks. Steve Morse though, couldn't have been a more grounded nice person! Has a new project with Don Airey, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake - the original Blizzard of Ozz band.Air date of my chat should be 4/24 - click my sig for how to listen online! Members 27Frets
I have met him twice- several years between meetings and he was the same both times; cordial, really happy to talk about anything and easy to talk to, and just a really good guy. To this day he is the nicest most approachable "celebrity musician" I have ever met.

Members 27Frets
Haven't encountered any that I would consider being true assholes to me, but definitely several stuck-up douche bag types back in the day- George Lynch and Ritchie Kotzen come to mind. And it could have been just that I met them on a "bad day"- maybe they are both good guys 90% of the time. Hard to say.
Members vintage clubber
Steve Morse is definately one of the nicest musicians out there. I met him about 20 years ago while he was touring with the re-formed Dregs. I have seen his solo show as well as with DP. One of my favorite players for sure! thanks for sharing! Members uab9253
Thanks and I'll get it posted soon after it airs. And, I'll never tell who the assholes were. I can really only think a couple. Not even assholes so much as cranky old men or drunks.
Members Will Chen
Very cool! Steve Morse should be a house hold name with guitarists but for some reason he seems to fly just under the radar of the main stream. When ever folks put up an argument that its impossible for a guitarist to conquer all styles I always throw up Steve Morse as an argument. Maybe not the best traditional blues player, but he's got everything else down tight! High Tension Wires was a big influence on me as a teen, great album... Members Guitzilla
I recently watched a concert of Morse with Deep Purple. He has true command of the guitar.

Members mightysasquatch
I have interviewed people for articles I wrote in Guitar Player and Guitar World, plus I worked in radio for 11 years. Sometimes people are obviously tense about being interviewed, and it's like pulling teeth. It happens, the best way to deal with it is to make sure NOT to ask any questions that can be answered "yes" or "no", ask things that will require multiple word explanantions. I've met a few jerks, but met some really great people too. Best interview I have ever had was with Dave Murray from Iron Maiden, great guy, and really easy to interview. Members R00PE
scott ian from anthrax looks cool and funny at first view but a friend of mine work on shows and he told me that he was one of the worst musicians he has met. He told me that almost all the crew working on the show thought he was an asshole.
Members jrockbridge
I've been a Steve Morse fan since the 80's. His Dixie Dregs work is great! I got to see the Steve Morse band at a small bar in Flagstaff, AZ. He's a very versatile virtuoso. I love his tones!

Very odd.

Members uab9253
Yes, but he was not terribly Sunshiney. The reason, I think - and I didn't find this out until later but his old writing partner was about to be sentenced for boy touching and I think he was afraid that I was going to ask him about it. They've been estranged for years......

Members tribalfusion
Richard Finch Thanks; on what did he and Morse collaborate? I thought Morse wrote pretty much everything; he is noted for writing every note for all the instruments in the Dregs for example...
