What is the difference between Gibson SG Special '60s Tribute electric guitar and the Gibson SG Classic faded electric guitar?

The only difference I found was the pickguard and $100 in the price. Wow, pay $100 more just for a shorter pickguard.

Classics have a glossy finish. '60's Trobute is "Worn" which is a step up from "Faded."

And the aforementioned binding.

Otherwise its all a matter of Gibsons pricing matrix. The don't price guitars as a commodity (their prices have nothing to do with costs of materials and labor) but to have something at every price level.

He mentioned the Faded Classic, though. I didn't know there was a difference between worn and faded finishes.

I've owned both. The neck on the 60s is much more comfy. The Classic is a bit on the chunky side. Tone wise, the 60s is more lively and gnarly for some reason. I don't personally like neck binding and prefer faded and satin finishes ( know they have a Faded Classic now, those look cool and more to my taste). And yes Virginia, the smaller pickguard is so much more appealing.

the faded Classic has a thinner neck than the glossy Classic. Also, the pieces of wood are variable. The one I have now is two PERFECTLY matched pieces with center seam, it looks like one piece. I saw one that was 3 pieces horribly matched though
