Members niceguy
So I've been having a hard time getting a good recorded distortion tone from my amp (Crate V50 tube combo). The clean tones are jaw-dropping nice, and hard fuzzes come across beautifully. Distortion was a tough point.... So, I set the amp on its overdrive channel (which blows), but then I used my EHX LPB-1 and MI Audio Blues Pro OD to boost the channel. Holy crap! What a difference! I'm getting extremely good distortions at manageable volumes.
Members Invader.CC
I have a Crate V33 ..The same thing is true for it also the clean channel is worth the price of the amp alone but the overdrive channel is terrible..I mostly just use pedals in front of the clean channel but here is a little trick you may want to try.. If you can get your hands on something like a EHX Tube zipper , Damage Control liquid blues,Seymour Duncan twin tube or one of the Radial tone bone pedals with the twin `12AX7 tubes in it ..Place effect into the effects in and bypass the Amps pre amp so you use the pedals tubes as a pre amp..Your Crate will then become a massive tone machine.. A friend taught me this after i was complaining about the dirt channel of the V33..He brought his Marshall tube pre amp over ..My Crate sound incredibly close to my Marshall JCM800 when using this $250 pre amp.. I use a Damage Control Liquid blues in this way and this season will be the first time i wont be dragging my $2000 dollar Marshall around the mid west with me because of the great tones i'm getting doing this..
