Members blingdogg
So I keep hearing how good Doyle Bramhall II is, but I never really listened to him much besides one or two of his big songs. What's a good album for me to check out first? Preferably something that's not too pop/mainstream or radio-friendly. An album or songs that are more raw and really show what he's all about as a guitarist.
Members cratz2
I'm interested as well since I'm impressed by him, but I don't have any of 'his' recordings. Until you get some real suggestions, check this out: [video=youtube;invo5D6SuBQ]

Members blingdogg
Thanks Cratz, that was good. He's got some skills, that's for sure. Hopefully some more people will chime in. Looking at the number of people interested in this thread, looks like I should've started it earlier .

Members EllenGtrGrl
Try his material with the Arc Angels - Doyle and Charlie Sexton made some cool music back in the early 90s. I was in a band at the time, that performed more than a few Arc Angels tunes. Arc Angels reunion - Doyle's the left handed player, playing a left handed guitar, strung right handed.[video=youtube;TCmaqZ5tONQ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCmaqZ5tONQ
Members jonny guitar
^ I agree with Arc Angels. They had some great songs and the playing is always tasty and 'for the song'...the songs grow on you so listen to them a few times. The guitar tones were superb example of that 80-90's Texas tone. Members Cobalt Blue
From the solo stuff, I recommend "Jealous Sky" and "Ain't Going Down Slow"
Members mikesr1963
I love that he plays left handed with the guitar strung upside down. Here he's got J. J. Johnson simply killing it on the jazz drum set. [video=youtube;AHfOJwUF1JY]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHfOJwUF1JY&feature=related
Members 27Frets
The first Arc Angels album (was there a second one?) is fantastic- try to find it on amazon or ebay- well worth it. I still have it my itunes rotation. Living in a Dream, Paradise Cafe, Sweet Nadine, and Too many Ways to Fall are some of my favorites.
Members cratz2
His work (And snowy's) with waters is fantastic. Also check out the "Shine on" version from the in the flesh DVD. Without a doubt. I'm a total Gilmour fanboy and make no apologies about it, but I've probably listened to the In The Flesh 2010 more in the last year than any Gilmour/Pink Floyd live album or DVD. I love Gilmour to death, but it's nice to hear different takes on songs that I know inside and out and upside down. Sometimes the result is a bit unexceptional such as the second half of the outro on the Bramhall/White Comfortably Numb where it sounds more distinctly like a guitar vs a part that could be sung, but happens to be played on guitar, but I still dig it as an alternative. Members cratz2
Yeah, I have Arc Angels around here somewhere though I haven't listened to it since probably 2000 or so. Good stuff.

Members DaleH
Kind of makes the guitar sound muddy. Good player though.
Members blingdogg
Wow, thanks for all the replies guys. I've listened to what's been posted here, then checked out some more stuff on youtube. Thanks to you guys who mentioned the Arc Angels... I didn't even hear about them before, but I like what I've heard, especially that track that EllenGtrGrl posted. That was just what I was looking for. good lord thats good.. I thought he had more studio albums for some reason. And yeah, I really like his Strat tone. I've been obsessed with Strat/Tele guitarists lately, and I think Bramhall II has one of sweetest tones. That video link you posted is killer too!
Members soundcreation
I don't know much of his catalog either but I know I like him. To me he's got the feel. Got that little bit of grime on him that many of the so called blues rock guys around today don't. This one is pretty bad ass...just found it..muddy waters cover. Members Reignman
Well, let me tell you...... I saw him open for Clapton ad MSG and truth be told, I enjoyed his performance 100x more than Eric's... Sorry, but going to see Clapton play and watching him play accoustic {censored} for 2 hours is a Damn joke. I think he played the electric for 7 minutes total.
