I just read an interview with Tony McManus in acoustic guitar where he says he rotates his string brands because when the guitar gets use to one brand, the tone deteriorates. So he has like five brands he rotates through....

Y'know the whole battery thing won't die simply because it repeatedly is bought up. As Eric mentioned in the clip it was a just statement based on a personal observation he made ages ago. I can't believed he still gets dogged out about it till this very day. I'm sure Rusty asked in earnest, but you do sense that Eric has grown weary of that question? This same question also came up in two recent guitar mag interviews as well. Time to let it go. I'm certain there are much more interesting topics in respect to his musicianship he'd rather discuss.

I suspect that part of the reason people won't let it go is because some of the other tone assertions he's made in the past (these are paraphrases, I don't have the verbatim quotes at hand):

- "Trem springs are critical to tone. Once my tech replaced my trem strings and the tone loss was unreal; I made him put the originals back right away."

- "On the Arbiter fuzz face, I take out the screws that hold the case to the chassis and substitute rubber bands. It's also important to have the unit rest on top of my Twin Reverb in just the right place."

- "In the old days I'd have left the studio and gone home thinking, "the way that cord is curling is really bumming out my tone."

As far as the battery thing goes, Duane Allman reportedly sought out batteries that were nearing the end of their charge, because of the way they affected the tone of his overdrive pedals.

LOL! That's funny. Unfortunately most of those "quotes" sound like the end result of kids playing "pass it on" or telephone. In all the articles and interviews I read or seen none of Eric's statements approached that level of absurdity. One thing I walked away with is how varying elements in your signal path can affect the resulting tone. Some cat's are a bit more fanatical about it than others. At the end of the day does it really matter if you can't hear it? I say everyone is entitled to be as fussy as they like about their tone & rig. If he hears these subtle differences more power to him. I just find it hypocritical to single Eric out considering the number of guitar/tone fetishist and cultist that hang out her at H.C. There's a health dose of B.S. tossed around here daily. One man's nonsense may be another man's gospel I suppose. :idk::idk::idk:

Now that definitely has an effect. Some OD and fuzz pedals are really sensitive to input voltage.
