Members tlbonehead
open G is the one I use most often for slide-only playing. But I play mostly in standard since most of the time I am going back/forth between slide and fretting with each song when playing live.
Members Convert
I use standard tuning.... That's not a bad idea. Unless your really good, a little slide goes along way. In standard tuning, strings 2, 3, and 4 work fine for a few basic slide riffs.
Members Doctor49
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ and there is the advantage of less tuning hassles. Its worth learning this way.
Members hecticone
What guitar are you planning on using? You can rip some guitars apart using open tunings that tune up. I use open g myself.
Members LuckyBlackCat
If I were you, I'd start with standard tuning. It's hard enough to learn how to control the slide, not to mention learning that and a new tuning at the same time. Learn to play with control in standard and then move on to others if you decide you want to. I personally love playing slide in standard tuning. Warren Haynes, one of the best, uses mostly standard tuning with slide.
Members Wyatt
I used to play in open D or G, these days I play in standard tuning, as noted above...in standard tuning, you can play all the Open G riffs on the BGD strings.
Members Snowcow
I use standard tuning, with the slide on my middle finger. I also angle the slide for different chord shapes. I picked up that technique from Brett Garsed. (sometimes I'll use DADF#AD)
Members humbuckerstrat
Standard here, too, and i use a Husky V-Slide (from V-Picks.com). It feels as good as their picks.
Members Minnie The Moocher
I often use a mix tuning, something between the standart tuning and the open-G: E-A-D-G-B-D . Very usefull if you like to alternate standart playing in the bass and slide leads.
