Members chimi
While i've never been a HUGE Metallica fan i listen to them from time to time. Decided i should learn the first solo from Fade to Black as it always had this cool eerie quality to me. Took me about an hour in between watching tv. I can't quite play it up to full speed yet but it's pretty close. I figure a few more runs through it ought to do it. I've really been slacking on my guitar duties due to me being a few weeks away from getting my masters degree but it was fun to really sit down and learn a small piece of music like this. My fingers are actually starting to hurt a bit as this is the most playing i've done in quite some time. Just figured i'd share my little personal victory. I've never really cared much for learning solos note for note but there is something to be said about someone who can do it. Going off of that what are some solos that are in the similar easyness range?
Members StevenJM
i've never taken the time to learn that solo, because i've heard 100s of people butcher it while at guitar shops... BUT... i think thats one of my favorite metallica parts. especially because its really eerie, yet really beautiful sounding, and at a time where they were 'metal as {censored}'. I'm not a huge metal head, but Ride The Lightning might possibly be my favorite record of all time. Probably the most listened to out of anything in my collection. and Fade To Black has one of the coolest outro's ever. (the part that fades out)

Members cratz2
Yeah, I've heard it butchered PLENTY of times but I absolutely LOVE that intro lead bit. It's so versatile. You can play it exactly in rhythm and with gain and it sounds metal... play it on a neck strat pickup with less gain and a bit slower and it can sound pretty bluesy. As for other recommendations... I don't know... the twin harmony bit in Mr Crowley, esp the lower half, is similar and about the same skill level.
Members the fretter
Very nice. Kirk's intro solos are often interesting-One and Sanitarium are other good ones to learn. Fade to Black has to be my favourite Metallica song, mainly for the outro.
Members Welladjusted
A lot of the solos Brian May and David Gilmour did are pretty structured and melodic. They'll also help improve your phrasing and vibrato, even though they're not as speedy as Metallica stuff.
Members DaveAronow
Wait, you are not ready to learn something new. First you have to put what you have just learned to good use.... Get your ass up to Sam Ash or Guitar center, find the loudest, {censored}tiest sounding amp you can find, crank it to 11, grab the first piece of {censored} guitar you can, DO NOT TUNE It, and just start wailing that solo over and over and over and over again for hours on end. Ignore the looks of all the employees and customers who have been tortured relentlessly by this very solo, from their failed attempts to shop for guitars in peace to the point that it haunts there very souls, and only when the store is closing and you are being escorted out by force, then and only then can you put this solo to rest. Your next mission: The intro to Sweet Child O'Mine. JUST the intro only. Note: It is VERY important that you DO NOT learn this piece correctly, in fact, the worse you play it, the more points you get, and when you feel like you can just barely hack your way through it, get your ass right back up to the store, and once again, proudly show the world your achievements. Now dont let us down , Son. This is the VERY reason these pieces came into existance. Because there IS a God, and he most definitely has a sense of humor. Why else would he have created people that would wright this stuff, and then make people that would try to copy it? Funny guy, That God dude. Members vikingrat
Get the tab books for the first two Ozzy records. You will use what you learn in those for as long as you play hard rock/ Metal. He was a good bridge between Blackmore and EVH.
