A question for Tele owners..

I personally like 'em both, and use them both.

Push comes to shove? I'd opt for a 3-saddle with compensated saddles.

This.

3 saddle bridges add more of that tele twang and provide for more of that signature sound. You lose the ability to perfectly intonate though (which some people say is part of the tele sound too)

6 saddle bridges offer a slightly more modern sound, less twang, but allow you to perfectly intonate.

The compensated brass saddles are meant to be a great compromise.....tele twang and vibe with more accurate tuning.

I put together a tele last year and started with the modern six saddle bridge because I wanted to be able to tune the thing. I was having a bit of trouble with one of the saddles so I put on an "ashtray" with compensated brass saddles and I much prefer the sound. When I drive that thing through a pair of EL84s it's all tele and nothin' but tele.

Yeah, like Dale said, Hipshot. Expensive but whoa! What a killer bridge. The base is milled from solid stainless steel. My tele sounds simply stunning. Not sure what accounts for that, but I'm certain that the bridge has something to do with it.

Like I've said before, Jeff loves an excuse to show off his tele.

I do like that bridge - one problem I have with mine is that the saddles themselves are angled (like on the Danny Gatton Telecaster) and that brings the height adjustment screw for the third string back to where it is almost on top of the mounting screw for the base

Look how close my high E string height screws are to the mount. If I had to move it back any further, I'd be in trouble. I could probably shim the neck a bit and gain or lose some room. How would that work?

A shim in the neck seems like a good idea. It would require the saddles be raised up a bit and it would make the distance from the saddle to the nut a tiny bit longer. Those two things combined may result in the bridge saddle being a little bit closer to the neck.

On the down side, I wonder how much a shim would affect the sound. One thing I have noticed about Warmoth is how well the partss fit together. When I got the bits for my tele, I put the body and neck together to check the fit and, without screws, I could lift the two of them up just by lifting the neck.

For some reason, I thought you were in the UK but your info says CO.

vintage all the way. I dont even use brass saddles-steel. Fender pat pend plate and non-compensated steel saddles, circa 1950-style.

But Im not one of those purist:I dont give a {censored} what you use. Pete Townshend uses modern 6 saddle on a real blackgaurd the bastard

Vintage, but just because I prefer the look. I've got two with modern six-saddle bridges and two with brass; I don't notice any set-up or intonation disadvantages with brass, and just think it looks better on a guitar whose genesis was in the 50's.

How do you like it? I've got a Hwy1 Tele and I like the bridge well enough, but I kinda have that itch to tweak.....

Sane here. I like it because I think it intonates better and it's unusual, but sometimes I get the urge to see what a 3 barrel would be like.
