Members poolshark
So I've always had this thing for white amps with cane/wheat/thatch grills. I think they're ridiculously showy, which isn't really my style, but they remain totally awesome nonetheless. Now, I have a white/cane LOPO cab that gets used with my Egnater Tweaker, but the two color schemes don't really match. A few days ago, I got the idea in my head that I should change that. Breaking the amp down: Prepping the goodies, Rustoleum vinyl spray paint, in warm water: Head shell freshly cleaned, sitting amidst my jank backyard setup: After one coat: After flipping it and doing the bottom, here's the second coat: Reassembled: Reunited (and it feels so good): Now, while I like it quite a bit, it's far from perfect. The grill cloths don't match, and neither does the hardware. I'll probably recover the Egnater grill cloth in the future, and I'd like to go chrome hardware with a brown leather handle. If anybody has any suggestions for the grill on top of the amp, lay 'em on me. I'd like to go chrome, but I have no idea where to source that kind of thing; paint would be easy, but I'm at a loss for the color. UPDATE: After swapping grill cloth, here's what she looks like:
Members GAS Man
That's interesting, I didn't even know there was such a product as fabric and vinyl paint.
Members poolshark
I'd never used it before today, but I've heard many good things. I picked at a few spots that are hidden from view, and I'm pretty confident that the paint won't be cracking, chipping or otherwise coming off without the rest of the tolex. Members Meowy
Looks great. Is the paint designed to remain flexible so it doesn't crack over time? For the grill how about some Metalcast? Actually, hit all of the hardware with this. You want pimped? How about annodized purple? I'm hoping to get a Tweaker sooner or later. Let me use this as an invitiation to fuel to your love white & wheat. See my sig
Members boxcarmonument
OMG I love it. You just gave me the best Idea for my Mark III headshell. I didn't know they had such a paint either... Thank you:wave:

While I couldn't guarantee anything, I've picked at it a bit, and it seems pretty rugged. Also, the metalcast paint is a great idea. I don't know anybody around here who'd chrome plate such a small order; the metalcast stuff might be just the trick.

Members poolshark
Looks really great. If you do the chrome grill plate will you leave the face plate black? I'm 90% on leaving the faceplate black, as it'll be a pain to remove the amp guts for a good paint job on the chassis. I'll probably do creme-colored knobs as well, not unlike those on the Rebel 20. Whether I go with chrome, white or something else on the top grill will mostly depend on how it looks with the faceplate. Also, does anybody know where I can get dark tint in a spray-can? The cane grill cloth on the Tweaker is obviously a little lighter than that of the cab; I figure, before biting the bullet and ordering some new cloth to re-cover it, I might as well take a shot at it with some kind of tint if it's available. Members mrbrown49
One thing you could do is cut a custom faceplate that fits over the existing one. It will be held on by the pot and switch nuts. Many amps use a seperate face plate that sits over the chassis like that. For the grill cloth you could try removing it from the cab and submerging it in a dilute solution of dye. That will cover better than a spray method and you won't be limited by what you can find in a spray. In that case, I might even be able to tint the cloth without removing the Egnater logo (which, annoyingly enough, is held on by about 6 plastic pegs, hot glued through the wood). I will have to look into this.

Members poolshark
Looking good! Haha, what a compliment. Hopefully I can post some shots with some newly painted hardware tonight. Decided to go white with the upper grill and chrome with the strap lugs.

Takes way, way too long to set up. I finished spraying the bits yesterday afternoon, and I'm *hoping* I'll be able to hit them with some polish today. Members Deadbeat Son
Looks great! I was going to suggest checking with a local plating shop to see if they could add your vent-grill to their next batch of chrome they're dipping. If they already have an order coming in from someone else, it shouldn't cost much for them to add in your piece. Also, white knobs would be the bomb on there; and then I'd leave the faceplate black. I wonder if I could get something on Egnater letterhead. Back on topic, I've given up on painting these handle mounts chrome. Can't get the paint to set up no matter what I do. Getting ready to clean them off with some gas and either 1) source some chrome mounts or 2) find a place that'll chrome these for cheap.
