Guitar Show (SF Bay area) brief report...

I went Saturday around noon and was surprised when I walked in how light the crowd was. The show is usually jumping at that time with a long line of people waiting to check in with their gear, but not today. There were definitely people there, but not like other times where you have to shoulder your way through the crowd.

I don't know how much the economy has to do with it, but there were also way less of the super high end vintage guitars like 59 Les Pauls and 57 Strats in the $30,000 and up range than I'm used to seeing there, although there was definitely no shortage of cool drool-worthy guitars.

I also didn't see as many big name players as usual, although I spotted Metallica's James Hetfield walking around just as I was leaving. All in all it was worthwhile going, but not as good as other years. Did anyone else here go?

I go to that show all the time, mostly to see what the local luthiers bring out. Last two years, attendance has been, well, pretty grim. Very lightly attended last July. Haven't been to this show, but you can get tired of looking at $25,000 vintage instruments, if you can believe it. You hardly want to touch them.

I go into Eric Schoenberg shop in Tiburon all the time (I've bought three guitars and a mandolin there), and he usually brings out some of the really spectacular stuff in no longer keeps at his shop (because of a burglary a year or so ago).

The locals professionals go all the time though. Usually, Hetfiled and Neil Schon show up, and usually a few others.
