Members Angry Tele
I dont get it. Im not talking product placement there's plenty of that (House, MD's Twin Reverb, Pepper Potts' Tele etc) but full on commercial spot lights. The only one Ive ever seen were the few Guitar Center ones they have during the holidays.

Members aenemated
because the market is way too small to justify the cost of the airtime, never mind production costs. that {censored} ain't cheap. trust me.
Members Grantus
Niche market, like the others have said. I do hear Guitar Center commercials on the radio, frequently.
Members photon9
They've had some GC commercials on TV in my area. Other than that I don't see music gear commercials. But I agree it's a niche market, and generally guitarists are aware of the brands through other means, there's really no need for commercials. Members Felix959
Epiphone did some TV spots -- in New York, at least -- maybe two or three years back. Guess they didn't accomplish much.

Guess they didn't accomplish much. yeah Im thinking at least local markets, like those cheesey used car guys they have commercials running 24/7. Especially since Gibson and even Fender ("when you're ready") are selling this Lifestyle angle crap ala Harley Davidson youd think these spots would sell tons of junk. Members cbh5150
Gibson did run a TV commercial a few years back during the holidays. Guess it didn't return the investment well enough to justify the cost.
Members craigny
Harley Davidson was pretty much the same way...virtually no TV advertising...not needed.
Members Mr.Grumpy
I remember the Gibson TV commercial...it was kind of weird and campy. "Only a Gibson is good enough!" Members Angry Tele
see, this is great! Imagine the lulz we could have if they ran a bunch of spots like this.

Members d_dave_c
Guitar players are only 5% of the population. Better to spend money on more targeted marketing efforts. When you think about it, 5% is pretty a pretty large percentage - 1 in 20?
Members WhatDoIKnow
They would need to be run during a History Channel or Discovery Channel-type "music gear" program. Just like you only see fishing equipment commercials while watching outdoor-based programming. They still sell a lot of fishing equipment. Hmmmm, you would think they could run on CMT or VH1. MTV doesn't play music anymore do they?

I bet everyone thats ever lived in the US (after 1960) either knows someone that plays guitar or plays themselves. Its kind of like AIDS. Members d_dave_c
Pretty sure that 5% is not more than 1 in 20. Not sure if the 5% is in the US or globally, but i trust my source on the 5% figure.
Members Meowy
We're not a large enough market apparently? Steven Wright once had a bit where he ponders why there are no commericals for string... ...everyone uses string

Are there 15 million people looking to buy Pajama Jeans?

Members ashasha
Would a commercial on TV make you get up and buy that particular guitar or pedal?
Members Angry Tele
Would a commercial on TV make you get up and buy that particular guitar or pedal? thats not how commercials work. Id rather see some cool Tele ads than 10 teeth whitening ads.
