The only acceptable source of vibrato:

That depends on how you are doing the finger vibrato. The best vibrato is one where the pitch fluctuates above and below the base pitch. With the way finger vibrato is traditionally done the pitch only goes above and returns to the base pitch. That is not the way to achieve a superior vibrato.

The way to get a superior vibrato using finger vibrato is to do a pre-bend into the note you want and then do finger vibrato. This will get the pitch to fluctuate above and below the base pitch. It should be noted you must mute the string in some fashion before releasing unless hearing the pre-bend is desired.

The reason the Bigsby is so great is it allows you to achieve the superior vibrato without going to all the trouble I just described. Yes, other vibrato bridges (not "trems" as uncorrectly described) also achieve the superior vibrato, but they are overall inferior to the bigsby. Many require body routing if you want to retrofit a guitar with one, and are unable to handle alternate tunings. And aesthetically there is no vibrato bridge that can match a good Bigsby. The only downside is the superior vibrato is not as controllable with a Bigsby as with a pre-bend+finger vibrato, but that is the compromise you must make for an easier (superior) vibrato and a great looking vibrato.
