Members guitarizt
Should I just get the cheap ones or the ones with the dial on them? My friend says that I can have some of his but he needs at least two for his snare and bass drum. This doesn't make much sense to me. Why does he need two and not just one? Can I have some tuning keys from anyone? If you send me some I can send you a $5.
Members guitarizt
Should I get this or not waste my money and just get a normal drum key like the tama one for $2? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=020811003706024247177095335855/search/g=perc/detail/base_id/40196
Members Dave Schenck
Go to Guitar Center and get an Evans tuning key. They are spendy but they are made of drop forged steel so you'll never have to replace it, plus the edge that meets the lugs is magnetic, so you can leave it on your snare when your done tuning and it wont rattle or fall off. Most of the cheap cast iron drum keys I've had have broken at the worst times. With the money I've spent on cheap keys I could have bought two of the Evans keys. Members wally_groove
I bought that one you posted a link too. It's quite useful when you're first starting out and stuff, but i never use it anymore. First off, it's just funner to tune by ear, and it gives you a much better sound, that you know you really like. I wouldn't try to just start tuning this way though, with a standard key, unless you really wanna try. Have to start somewhere. The first set of skins i tuned by ear took me forever. I was tuning them off and on for a week or two. I'd keep changing em up, trying to get the sound i wanted. Good luck,Justin
Members guitarizt
I'll do it by ear and get two of the evans magnetic keys. Thanks. I think my friend wanted two keys to make the tuning go faster. That way you can have them opposite of each other and not have to keep taking one out.
