Members music321
i've searched the forum and looked at product manuals, but found nothing. If I turn the truss rod on an epiphone les paul, how do I know which way it will bend the neck? also, I've heard that it must be adjusted in slight increments totaling no more than 1/4 turn per hour. is this the case? finally, should the strings be slack or tight when adjusting it? Members Doctor Morbius
Strings slack when tightening. Strings either way when loosening, but you will probably want to slacken the D & G strings if they are in the way. Turning the wrench clockwise will tighten the truss rod and will bend the neck back. Turning the wrench counter clockwise will loosen the truss rod and bend the neck toward the fretboard. Slight adjustments are best. 1/4 of a 360o turn is a lot, IMO. Members fretmonster
Turn the truss towards the treble to loosen and provide more relief in the neck and towards the bass side to tighten it. The strings should be tuned to pitch and the caveats sound about right. Sometimes you have to loosen to get them out of the way.
Members sammyreynolds01
if you have a backbow (if your strings are hard to fret) tigthen the rod. If your neck has bowed in (it frets out) then loosen the rod. right tight left loose

Members Doctor Morbius
If your neck has bowed in (it frets out) then tightened the rod.I don't think this is correct. If you fret out between frets 7 to 15 ish and are OK everywhere else, loosen.
