Members chimi
Seems like they came out of nowhere the last few months. Judging by the shapes and names it looks like the people behind Dean guitars are making these? I was just wondering what the story is
Members Critical Ninja
It's Dean Z's new company after he sold the rights to Dean Guitars. Seems he has guitars built in China, Japan, and the U.S. As you can guess, the ones made in Japan and the U.S. are $$$$$.
Members awd83
Dean Zelinsky, who started Dean then sold out, started DBZ. I've played a few lower end models, that cost much more than they should. Several are almost identical copies of Dean, especially the Bolero - Soltero wannabe. I think most are made in China, and are very similar to most Deans. Owning a Soltero, the Bolero really disappointed me. They seem to have lower quality materials than Dean - think about that for a minute, although I'm completely happy with my Soltero. That particular Bolero is about $700, while the Soltero's were blown out at $399 last year, and I think the Dean is much better than the DBZ. Overall, they're interesting, and some are original, like the Imperial, but i'd stick with something else for the money.
Members clintb
A. Dean didn't "sell out" to Dean Guitars; check your facts guys...http://www.gear-vault.com/dean-zelin...-dean-guitars/ B. He designed the Soltero, so there is no wannabe bs you are talking about. THIS is the guy who designed the guitar there ace. You've obviously never tried a Bolero...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slIQnN0vVdM Your either smoking crack or lying if you think the quality is lower than Dean Guitars. C. The reason DBZ Guitars are kicking ass is that the guitars are killer quality and are under the complete control of Dean himself. D. The DBZ Imperial was nominated for "Best Electric Guitar of the Year". Now, if they were really making bad guitars, how would this be possible? Enlighten yourself...http://www.dbzguitars.com/experience/ ..and just to show how bad ass DBZ is, check out this contest...http://www.dbzguitars.com/guitar-contest/http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=44174809756 I'm a convert from Schecter, Ibanez, and Dean Guitars and I couldn't be happier. I own a DBZ Bolero, a Barchetta, and an Imperial. Also, just to state a fact: the quality of the imports rivals any USA guitar out there. You're saying this stuff but you haven't really tried one have you? So go ahead and say what you will, but thousands of folks are taking notice and it's because Dean Zelinsky is the real deal. Members Woody_in_MN
I ordered a Bolero ST on 12/31/2010. When I get it I'll post a NGD and short review. BTW - I don't think COA has much to do with quality anymore. The 2 MIC Hagstroms I have are right in there with the American mades I've had. And yes, both Soltero, and Bolero were designed by Dean Z. - so I'm not sure about this "wannabe" stuff.
Members clintb
Not calling anyone a liar man, I'm just simply pointing out that I've shown and played these guitars for all my guitar buds and - NO JOKE - they all flipped for these guitars, a couple went out and bought one right away. So maybe liar is harsh, but the integrity from that post just doesn't seem accurate so I call bull{censored}. That's my opinion. They are pretty rad ass guitars! Try one. Members Critical Ninja
I will admit to really liking the new Cavallo Vintage Natural, it's a sharp-looking guitar and most likely plays and sounds good...but $700 for a made-in-China guitar wtihout a case is just too much IMO. I just picked up a Gibson Flying V off of eBay w/case for just over $600.
Members d_dave_c
You said he was either smoking crack or lying. Since you have recanted on the lying bit, are you therefore saying he is, indeed, a crack smoker? I don't like a line that has everything badged under one banner, but some stuff is import and some stuff is domestic. Give me Gibson/ Epiphone, or even Fender where it's easy enough to see where things are coming from. It seems somewhat deceptive that one model has some versions that sell for $300 and some for $1,300. Maybe you've played the $1,300 one and he's played the $300 one. 'Cause y'know, he has to save up for all that crack.
Members ExiledCrow
Um,yeah, you did call him a liar. It's alright we get that you're a fan, try not to be such a fan-boi and people will take you more seriously. Just some advice you're free to ignore. Sure, they are low end model guitars but they play like mid range ones I'd like to get a higher end Dean myself though. Such as the Vendetta 4.0, Soltero, or an Exotic wood model. But for ~$200, you would expect a guitar to play terribly, but when you do some modding, they play great. Hey dude, you misread part of my post and you're blowing the rest way out of proportion, and no, I don't smoke crack. What I said was Dean sold Dean guitars and started DBZ. I called the Bolero a Soltero wannabe because he took "his" design and made an exact copy of it and called it a Bolero - not saying it can't live up to the Soltero, but the Soltero was here first, the Bolero is a copy of it with a slightly different headstock. You can blow DBZ all you want, but from what I have seen and played (re-read my post, I said lower end DBZ), the DBZ seemed cheaper build quality than my Dean. There is a M&P shop 1 mile from my house, and that's all he sells is DBZ and a few Oscar Schmidt guitars. The low end Barchetta bolt on is going for over $400 and it seemed really cheap to me, with paint drips, low quality p/u's, etc... The Imperial is pretty cool since it's so thin and completely original, but all of the other DBZ guitars are pretty much line for line copies of the Dean guitars. They are probably all made in the same factory as the Dean's, in Korea, the only difference is the little badge glued on the headstock.Just an opinion, not fact. And I have played several DBZ guitars. I was just commenting that for the same amount of cash, you can probably find much nicer quality, and more original (except for the Imperial, granted). Members onerailunder
Does the Bolero have a US made pickup like the Soltero? I'm really digging it in mine, despite it being a bit "hot". Got to meet Mr. Zelinsky (seemed like a great guy) and know some folks at Dean, so I really have no dog in this fight.

Members onerailunder
Thanks, looks like the neck profile was changed, the body changed slightly, ebony vs. rosewood fingerboard and different pickups with coil tap.
Members Patuney
I really like my Imperial. The fact that I got it at an end of the year close out, and it's a first year model, really impressed me. I wanted something like a solid body 335, and this does just fine. Some may not like the soft V neck, but once you get used to it, you may even prefer it. Not a fan of the silly top slant mound input jack.
