Members Steinerrr Posted September 18, 2002 Members Posted September 18, 2002 I used someone's kick drum pedal and it broke! Now he wants me to pay 360,- bucks for it!!! It is an Premier EDP 300 double bass pedal. I don't know how the thing that broke is called, but it is some piece of moulded metal that has the same function as a chain on other pedals.. Do you know if it can be repeared?? He says that's no possible.. Please help! Thanks..
Members elevate Posted September 18, 2002 Members Posted September 18, 2002 Surely that piece is replaceable. Contact your local drum shop and ask. Sounds like he just wants you to pay for a new set of pedals.
Members Steinerrr Posted September 18, 2002 Author Members Posted September 18, 2002 That's probarly true! He pretty much hates me, so I guess he wants to rip me off.. When I asked why it can't be repaired, he said because the model is discontinued! I will phone a music store tommorrow and ask them!
Members Old Steve Posted September 18, 2002 Members Posted September 18, 2002 If you contact the manufacturer, you should be able to get a replacement part, and/or ship it to them for repair. Obviously, you should pay for the repair or parts. If he insists on the full replacement value, you should be able to keep what's left of the pedal and have it repaired for yourself. The other option is to find the same pedal and buy it for him, again keeping the broken one for yourself. Either way, you absolutely shouldn't give him the full retail cost for a new pedal, unless of course it was brand new when it broke. If it was, then the repair/replacement would be covered by warranty.
Members Steinerrr Posted September 18, 2002 Author Members Posted September 18, 2002 Hmm, yeah! The think's gotta be some years old, when he says it's no more available! I searched the net for an image, but only found one of the single bass version.. I marked the part that broke..
Members elevate Posted September 18, 2002 Members Posted September 18, 2002 If it comes down to it, any machine shop or metal fabricator with a CNC mill should be able to make that part. Of course it'll cost you quite a bit, but nowhere near what he's asking for. I'm also wondering if you could attach a chain. But then he'd probably never go for that.
Members woody431 Posted September 18, 2002 Members Posted September 18, 2002 Well, he's lying about them being discontinued. Here in the US, Interstate Music has them. They are $360 though. Dunno about fixing it though.
Members DRUMZZ Posted September 18, 2002 Members Posted September 18, 2002 If he was nice enough to let you use it then you're responsible. If it cannot be fixed then you have to buy him another pedal of the same model,my guess is you can find another 1 slightly used & give that to him, either way you are responsible.
Members slambang Posted September 19, 2002 Members Posted September 19, 2002 You're only responsible for a used bass drum pedal - that's what was loaned to you. Try to find a replacement part - if you can't, offer him what the pedal was worth when he let you borrow it. If he wants a new pedal, he can pay the difference. Do what you think is right. good luck.
Members pconn171 Posted September 19, 2002 Members Posted September 19, 2002 i can almost guarantee you that it's replaceable - get ahold of premier - my buddy reworked an old ass set of premier drums and he called them up for the bass drum spurs for this particular kit -not only did they have them - but they sent them to him for free and they paid the shipping - they seem like a really awesome company to buy from - after the service he got - i am seriously thinking about buying premier equipment from now on - if i talk to him soon - i'll try to get the phone number that he used and post it on here - maybe even the guys name that he dealt with

Why do I get the idea that he doesn't like the Premier pedal very much and that he'd rather buy a Tama, Pearl or DW pedal?

Can't do much with a number in the states.. Sure you can! It's not that expensive to make a call t othe states. Especially if that call saves you 360$! Anyhow, contact your local Premier dealer first. Ask if they have the part, if they don't, ask if they could order one for you. If that can't be done, pick up the phone and call that number. I order stuff from Germany and USA all the time and yeah, they show in the phone bill but still, it's a very low price to pay for that kinda thing...oh, your "friend" seems like an ass.
Members Steinerrr Posted September 19, 2002 Author Members Posted September 19, 2002 He is an ass, and not my friend.. hmm, just called the local music store, the owner said I should come with the broken pedal to him and he will call Premier Germany then.. let's hope the best!
Members boose44 Posted September 19, 2002 Members Posted September 19, 2002 According to Premiere's website, this part (and pedal for that matter) should be readily available. See:http://www.premier-percussion.com/spares/hardware/edp300_400.html Should be much cheaper than getting a replacement pedal. Here's the web address for their Denmark Distributor. Didin't see one for Germany.http://www.slagtojctr.dk/nyheder/default.asp hope this helps,-bruce
