Members eeddings
So I snagged a Gibson '57 Classic Hot matched pickup set with Alnico IIIs this month. I've never actually installed pickups before.I've read a lot about installing pickups on various forums. From what I read, I should just get a new wiring harness and maybe a new Switchcraft switch?Any hints/tips/help is appreciated.I'm putting the set I bought in this Epiphone:http://www.wwbw.com/Epiphone-Limited...udio%20Deluxe#
Members Meowy
You don't necessarily need a new wiring harness, depending on what is in the guitar. Aslso depending on the cavity routing, there might be mini pots, and insufficient room for full sized pots. Mini pots often get a bad rap, but there is really nothing wrong with decent minis. As a first timer, it will be MUCH easier to just do a straight pickup swap.
Members rockbot
Switchcraft toggles are really solid, but I don't see any reason to change it unless yours is broken or you want the practice. Definitely do it yourself though. Learning to solder is so useful... you'll be glad you did.
Members eeddings
I've done some soldering (pedals, etc.) just not inside a guitar cavity yet. Thanks for the responses, guys! Keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the responses, guys! Keep 'em coming! Also, lay a cloth over the finish; an old t-shirt is fine. Sometimes if you melt the wire insulator or other materials you'll get little napalm projectiles flying off the iron, and of course landing on the most visible area of your paint. They never go in the other direction

Best way is see what you have now. If I recall, carved tops need long shafts, flat tops don't
