Members DaveTAMA
I have a crazy idea, I want to remove the finishing of my hi-hat, so it would be no coating and no shiny anymore, same as my Dimensions Dry Ride, natural and metal looking. Anybody know how the sound would be? Thanks,Dave
Members Dave Schenck
I think your safest bet would be to contact the manufacturer. If you mess with it without knowing the specifics you may end up ruining a good cymbal.
Members Living Dead Drummer
what hi hats are you doing it too?I have a pair of old ZBT hi hats that I use on the right side of my kit as "closed hats" and I removed the finish on them, the sound didn't change much, but they seem a little brighter now for some reason....im really dig'n the sound I got out of them, even though they are the only sheet bronz cymbals I use, they are vary cool! Members DaveTAMA
Paiste haven't created the Signature Dark Hi-hat ... hohoho ... and I am going to do this experiment to my 13" Sound Formula Heavy Hi-hat. I'm expecting the black metal ... same as Signature Dry Dark Ride ... because this Sound Formula is created from Signature alloy. Next ... after totally remove the coating and gold surface, I'll coate with matte finish paint so it will look dull/matte and could protect the metal from corrosion, oxidize, etc. ... Members Chabo
If you take off the finish, it will make a bright sound, cause what will be showing is a clean, smooth surface. If you want it to sound dark or dry, then let it collect dust and grime. It will give you the sound of a Traditional finish cymbal (rather than Brilliant finish). Members DaveTAMA
Now I understand, its imposible to create or change the hi-hat color by removing with solvent or sandpaper, the cymbal/hi-hat is in gold/bronze color outside and inside, so ... its imposible to get black color like Signature Dark Ride, unless I burn the surface ... I'm going to do the experiment with a cheaper cymbal first, and let see what would be happened ...
