Members imissthewar
So, I'm allowed $200 for a snare by my wife. I have a 70's Acrolite that I love, but I think it's time for a wood snare. This one will probably be 5x14 or 5.5x14. Brands mean nothing to me. Yes, I've thought of Conaway. I'm interested in more established brand. I'm thinking used Premier or Ludwig, but I'm open to anything. Bestow your advice.
Members warpedpig
The Pacific All Maple Snare with Wood Hoops could be your answer. A KILLER snare for the price. Great tone, crisp, awesome rim shots.

Members imissthewar
Thanks! Has anyone played these 3 ply Slingerland snares on MusicYo.com? Any good? Keep em coming....
Members agogobill
here's a couple of Fibes at good prices ... same Jasper shells as Gretsch, but with flanged rims. I have one ... very nice. Plenty of crack like the Acrolite (which I also have), but with more depth, and more sensitive. If you like the Acro, you'll like these. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=922573385 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=922613862
Members woody431
I second the All maple Pacific snare. It's bad to the bone. It is a little more than $200 though. As you prolly know, try Conaway drums. You can get a nice custom snare for under $200 or a little over. Those are my suggestions, the Artwood snares are nice too.
