Fun with Jam Tracks

Updated my DAW, replaced my old M-Audio FW410 with a Scarlett USB interface and installed the latest version of my favorite recording software, Tracktion, which is now back in the hands of its original developer!

I grabbed a backing track for Gimme Shelter from guitarbackingtrack.com and tested out the new set up with my custom Esquire.

You can cue it up HERE.

All guitar tracks were recorded with Scuffham S-Gear. Final track post-processed in Ozone 5.

Feel free to post your take on the linked backer. I love listening to fellow guitarist noodle on these tracks.

Well done!

Tracktion 3 was my favorite recording software for a long time until it somewhat "broke" (wouldn't work anymore on playback). I then got Reaper and I am now busy learning that one which I'll stick to, I think, as it is very stable. But I had lots of projects attached to Tracktion so I still wrote to the tracktion folks for help and he let me download the lastest version (4) for $29 although I had lost all my license numbers and such. There were still some bugs, though not as bad as with 3. That could be my old machine but Reaper works flawlessly on it so I'm a Reaper guy now. The hard part of letting go of tracktion was that I knew it so well from using it a lot and I really liked its features.

Thanks, man. I gladly ponied up the $29 bucks for 4 and, having bought into Cubase over the years, couldn't be happier to have a new Tracktion product and to see it back in production again. I like simplicity and to be able to record ideas and stuff off the cut with little hassle. I tried Reaper for a while and I think it's a fine product but years ago I got hooked on Tracktion and upgraded through all the releases. My favorite up until recently has been version 2. That worked great until I bough a new PC and realized I couldn't register the product again and that's when I learned that Mackie was out of the picture.
