But lately ive been getting really Into this whole double bass thing ive been listening to slipknot, slayer a whole load of extreme double bass drummign {censored} and its inspiring me to Go alot further with it..

I practice 2 hours a day well not really fully... ive been getting into skating (skateboarding) and i skate for an hour then go back home and do an hour of double bass drumming and my feet are getting super strong.... im can almost play some slipknot already...

Well my question is what other bands have mid to high tempo bass drumming because i wanna expand my knowledge and learn more stuff from other bands and i think at the moment im a lil short of Super Double Bass playing bands....

any advice would be cool...

Ren

P.S. Im gonna learn heel toe technique my left foot(already been playing Heel toe with my right for 2 years) i wanna play like Virgil Donati lol that guy is amazing... just wonderin if any of u use heel toe? I think its made my drumming alot better its one of my most useful all time techniques

Depends how extreme you want to get and what kinds of thing you can listen to. A lot of European Power Metal has fast, but usually straight forward double kick. Bands like Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica etc. Also, stuff like Blind Guardian, Children of Bodom, Opeth, Nevermore, Symphony X etc. Personally, I'd say it's also worth your time to not only focus on getting your double kick up to speed, but work on different rhythms too, not just straight 16ths or whatever. For that, I'd say Dream Theater might be worth looking into.

Then again, if you're only into more extreme metal stuff, then I dunno...go and listen to some Morbid Angel and be both inspired and shattered at the same time. :D

Go for some Metallica. Lars Ulrich is one of the more versatile double bass guys, but he does pretty much the same DB groove throughout a song, as opposed to Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band) or Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater). With these guys, you have to know the song note-for-note in order to play it even close to correctly, cause they hardly ever repeat anything.

Some recommended Metallica songs:

The Four Horsemen

No Remorse

For Whom the Bell Tolls

Creeping Death (as played in the studio is easy with single pedal, but as played live, requires double)

Master of Puppets

...And Justice for All

Eye of the Beholder

One (my favorite song)

Harvester of Sorrow

To Live is to Die

Sad But True

Whereever I May Roam

The God that Failed

2x4

Until It Sleeps (can be played with single, but double is easier, and more fun)

Hero of the Day

Bleeding Me

Fuel

The Memory Remains

For some faster Metallica double bass songs:

Most of the album "Kill 'Em All", especially Hit the Lights and Motorbreath

Fight Fire with Fire

Battery

Disposable Heroes

Damage Inc

Blackened

Dyer's Eve (probably the fastest song ever recorded by Metallica)

You could also try some Megadeth, that guy's pretty good, too. Check out the album "Countdown to Extinction"

Death has some really great stuff, but I'm only listing things that don't go 1000mph. My favorite drum patterns in this list are probably from Crystal Mountain. That song just has some great drum work in it. Chuck always dug up some amazing drummers, Gene Hoglan being one of my favorites.

Artist , Song, Drummer

---------------------------------------------------->

Death, Human/Cosmic Sea, Sean Reinert

Death, The Philosopher, Gene Hoglan

Death, Trapped in Corner, Gene Hoglan

Death, Crystal Mountain, Gene Hoglan

Death, Flesh and the Power it Holds, Richard Christy

Some non-Death stuff

----------------------------------------------------->

Megadeth, Kill The King

Carcass, Heartwork

Carcass, Death Certificate

Pantera, Domination

Shadows Fall, A Fire in Babylon

Obituary, Dying

P.S. I'm no drummer, these are just some of the things I really dig.

For a beginner? Are you nuts? Can you even play it? Hah, it'd be something to work to, but definitely not something to start on...maybe something more like slayers 'hell awaits'. Thats good beginner stuff. :p

Dimmu Borgir, Zyklon, Napalm Death, Slipknot, THE BERZERKER! Those band are all about the speed. Go to the berzerker website and download the videos, most insane drumming ive ever seen. Perfect technique.

Ive heel-toe for some time and my band has an album out in summer. My website has some old songs on but there is alot of fast stuff. try "Kiss of carcarius"

As far as wanting to "expand my knowledge and learn more stuff from other bands":

**Fear Factory (Raymond Herrera)**

-Not Digimortal (the new one . . . grrr)

-Not the Remix Albums (ie: Remanufacture)

-Obsolete=superb!

-Demanufacture=excellent . . .

First reaction: WTF?

The topicstarter plays half a year DB and is able to play slipknot doubelbass rolls?

Those are at an average speed of 14 beats per second (@ the IOWA album). You say you can get that speed and tight? Record it for me!!! We always talk about doublebass stuff in topics, but never someone posts a recording of it... So, be the master then.. :) I tried it, a 15beats doubelbass roll, but I still can't get it really tight without triggering + my left beater makes a totally different sound. My batterbasshead is fucked up :) Buying new one. Check the "post here your drumrecording 1" topic.

Man, Lars Ulrich and doublebass? Not much special. Not Paul Bostaph nor Lars, when they play max speed they can't play really tight + hold volume. For doublebass songs? Quite simple, thrash metal, power metal, black metal, deathmetal, grindcore, slipknot etc. etc. For the metal doublebass god listen to Pete Sandoval, 17 beats/s. A speed I guess most drummers can never achieve and hold it a few seconds :)

By the way, Tama Iron Cobra, good choice :)

Not Digimortal

Why not? At least the album doesn't only contain doublebass ROLLS. Also triplets etc.

Why Paul Bostaph? Take some Dave Lombardo stuff. At least he plays a tight roll.

And still I can't believe the topicstarter playing 14 beats/s doublebassrolls in half a year.
