Members Newman
Has anyone here built their own drum set? I know where to get all the materials I will need (keller shells, hardware, stains and laquers, etc) but I don't know how hard it will be to do. If anyone has done this, please give me some feedback on how the process went, and post some pics. I was thinking of making a little jazz kit: 10, 14, 20. Thanks guys. Thanks from the bottom of my broken heart.
Members Mofishes
I've built a few drums with some success. Sorry, no pics. Are you carpentry inclined? If you are, then no problem (well almost). Buy shells with bearing edges and snare beds cut and wrap the shells! Achieving that showroom stain/laquer is nearly impossible unless you do that sort of thing on a daily basis.
Members dreamrealm
if you are interested about drum building you should check these forums http://www.drumrap.com lot's of custom drum builders, lot's of pictures....
Members woody431
Mofishes-- That's not true about the lacquering. If you check www.drummaker.com/talk and go to the photo gallery forum, there are alot of beginners or novice builders who have put on awesome lacquer finishes. So it's not impossible. This is NOT a good forum to talk about building drums, Drummaker.com/talk is the BEST one I know of.
Members Mofishes
Yeah, you're right Woody. With enough patience and a guideline to follow, one can achieve excellent results. Newman: Try the stain/lacquer and if that fails wrap the drum with a good quality wrap.
Members woody431
Yeah, if you are decent at staining or whatever, you can use a tung oil natural lacquer finish for your first. Not too hard to put on.
