Members WorshipMetallica
Everytime I play, I have to stop ever 2 minutes, grab my slave pedal and drag it back along with the left crash and hihats. Then I have to grab my bass drum/toms and drag IT back. Then I get to play again. I currently have my set out on my closed in porch that has a concrete bottom. That didn't work. So I layed down a quilt over the concrete, that wasn't bad, at least the bass/toms didn't move hardly. But my slave pedal sure did. So I tossed that, and layed down a few car mats that are made out of rubber. They didn't move much on the concrete, but again, my slave pedal slipped right off it onto the concrete constantly. So I tossed those as well. Then today, I layed down a different blanket (the cotton wool kind) and then one of those car mats that have a carpet like surface. The slave pedal sticks to that mat like glue, BUT the mat slides across that blanket ever so easily. So there you have it, I'm stuck, and don't know what to do. In my eyes, I have 2 options. I could either go out and buy one of those special drum mats for 40 bucks. Or I could go get a 4x6 strip of plywood and some how fix my iron cobras to that board. That way my slave pedal can't move, and my bass drum can't move because it's attached to the (master?) pedal. Any other suggestions/advice? Members Fafnir777
Go to a local carpet place, and look for a remnant of commercial carpet about 8'x8'. Don't worry about what color it is, after all, your drums are just going to sit on it. Tim
Members joestanman
I bought a big peice of carpet and wrapped a 2x4 at the front edge and stapled it down... I just push my kicks legs up to it and it goes no where.
Members rca
Carpet works for me, but another old trick is to tie the pedal to your throne base with a shoelace. Sounds and looks funny, but works.
Members WorshipMetallica
I put that into consideration. I actually was thinking of tying both pedals to my throne (chair {I'm heavy}) but I couldn't think of WHAT to tie it with. But a shoe lace is an excellent idea. I like the carpet idea too. I just haven't looked into it yet, but thought if I would buy carpet, I'd might as well but that grey drum mat, and just get it over with. i don't exactly know how much carpet costs either... Members 5feetfromcool
Carpet has been the best surface in my experience. Does your slave pedal have spikes in it? Mine does and they really help to keep it from moving.
Members frozin
Get a rug! You'll save some money by going to a carpet warehouse too. Hell- drive around a bit and look for some outside of someones house on a trash night. I see carpet all the time, it's everywhere and it can be had for free. Also, when you have carpet, throw a couple strips of velcro on your slave pedal. This will help it stick to the carpet, don't really need it on the master because the bass drum spurs should be digging into the carpet and preventing the drum from moving anyways... Members Mopzilla
Measure the floor space of your kit, then go to Home Depot and get yourself some carpet and cut it to size.. then get some velcro and stick it to the bottom of anything you don't want moving around, and problem solved. Bingo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why buy a "drum mat" when you can get carpet (which is proven to be durable) for less. I just kicked out the 8'x8' measurement because all of the local clubs drum risers are that size. Tim
Members Old Steve
Has anyone mentioned carpet yet? If you get really short carpet (i.e. not shag), you can also use a sharpie or strips of tape to mark where your pedals and stands go on the carpet. Then throw the whole deal in with your drums when you go to the gig, lay it out, and put everything back EXACTLY where you had it before.
Members parkbenchband
how about a carpet??? LOL!
Members MoosBros
I'm sure no one has mentioned the obvious solution,,, some type of short nap carpet... I use an Oriental rug under my kit..I've never had any problems with stuff creeping around... my kick drums all sit up on those add-on spikes that clip on the front hoop , the drum itself doesn't even touch the floor, maybe that's part of why they sound so good.... Members e-b-e
I'm not sure if anyone else ever heard of this, but ... Legend has it there once was a drummer who used a small piece of carpet under his drum kit! I've also heard another version of this, where it was actually a rug that the drummer used, not carpet. I cannot verify this for an absolute truth. As crazy as it does sound that a drummer would do this, I can still almost believe it!

Members Old Steve
I was reading the current issue of Modern Drummer with Keith Moon on the cover. In the story, they mention that Keith's drum tech used to come out and set up his kit, and then drive nails through the bass drum shells and into the stage to keep it from moving. Sadly, Keith died long before this forum began and never got to read this post.

Members Chabo
If your hi-hat is an Iron Cobra as well (dunno if other ones are compatable), Tama makes a device that attaches the hi-hat stand to the slave pedal so that they'll stay in place. This would help, along with buying a carpet, which I think has been mentioned at least once in this thread.
Members WorshipMetallica
I bought a 5x8 carpet at Big Lots today for 13 bucks! it's the loop kind, where each thread or carpet is looped, so I doubt that kit of mine will be moving anymore.
