Members Fafnir777
Just say: "bap bap bap bap bap bap bap bap bap bap bap bap", as fast as you can for 3 minutes. That will be like a blast beat, only about 20 times slower. There are different kinds of blast beats, but what most people are thinking of is when the Kick, Snare, and Hi-hat all strike at the same time, and it seems to be as fast as humanly possible....and then some 13-year old kid comes along and is a lot faster... Members Ernie
Correct me if I'm wrong, but with blast beats, the snare, kick, and hihat (or ride) don't always strike on the same beat. Most often, the bass and cymbal are struck simultaneously and offset with a snare hit. Ernie
Members Fafnir777
It depends, that's why I said there were different types. Some people think of the punk type, where the Snare is playing 2&4 while the Kick and Hi-hat are playing 1&3, or vice versa. To me, A blast beat is where all 3 are hitting at the same time - aka the Naplam Death style of blast beat. Tim
Members Dark Slide
I tend to play my blasts a few different ways. The last one is my favorite. I very rarely play the snare hats and bass all at once. I play also play blasts without bass drums on occassion. I consider the snare to be the key to the blast. If the snare is being hit repeatedly super fast, the bass drum and hihats can be doing whatever, as long as they're going also.
Members rumblebelly
I like blast beats when the kick is used sparingly. Like just start out with the snare and hats for a few measures and then lay in on the kick. Creates tons of tension.

Members MightyBricklayer
i prefer bass on every hit, and alternate your hands on the snare and the hats (or ride). it takes a decent amount of speed to get it fast enough to match a speed-picked guitar, but it's very gratifying to play, and when your bass drum is well mic'd it's got a lot of meat to it. working on this blastbeat regularly will also greatly improve your footspeed, i might add. work with a metronome, and remember that you can only play this as best you can match your handspeed to your feet. this is the blastbeat that nicholas barker (cradle of filth, dimmu borgir) started out playing (check out cradle's Cruelty and the beast). Dave Suzuki (vital remains) also uses it, as does joey on the first (musical) track on slipknot's Iowa. it isn't the smartest or most complicated drumbeat, that's for sure, but sometimes there's no better solution for creating intensity. Members Ernie
Ooooh...how I love Burnt by the Sun.Also check out Berzerker. Kind of a grindcore/industrial band. Very cool, at least the first album was. A few of those blast beats consist of just bass and snare. Pretty cool stuff.

HAHAHA I saw them (Berzerker) live they were so funny I almost pissed my pants. The backup vocalist had a pig head and he was choking on the mic. HAHAHAHA!!! BTW, one of the songs on Metallica's St Anger has a blast beat. Listen to it carefully because thats how it should NOT be played.
