Members Hanisch
Hey! I would like to get myself a new Hi-hat and Crash. I need real professional gear, so no beginners' crap. I hit the drums and cymbals very hard and so the cymbals should be really really durable. sound: loads of sustain, "shiny" sound (not dull), overtones at high and low levels, not sounding like a ride when hit softly,it should simply sound MASSIVE what's better for loud music? 16" 17" 18" crashes and is a 15" hi-hat better. What about the Z Zilldjians? better than the A series? thanks a lotbyemichael
Members DarthWader
Hey man, Everyone here will bombard you with their own personal choices. A lot of people like Sabian, a lot of people like Paiste. Both great brands, but I guess I'd say you can't go wrong with good old A Zildjian cymbals. Other people can tell you lots more about Sabian and Paiste. As for A Zildjian vs Z Zildjian, I've never played a Z but I know that they are specifically designed for heavy music where volume is the most important thing in the cymbal. Certainly not better than A Zildjians, you can get some pretty damn loud A's - I have an 18" Medium crash and it does me just fine when the volume gets high. Other than that, most of my cymbals are A Customs. Oh, and for volume get larger diameter and heavier weight cymbals. Good luck. Wade
Members ulank
The Z's would probably be a bit more durable than the A's IMO.
Members Rockdrumr1
I recommend Z Dyno Beat hats..I have them and they are the heaviest out there..plus they sound great..A crashes should work fine
Members psycht
depending on your technique you can make just about any cymbal last a long time. Just because its "professional" level, doesn't mean it isn't as duable or more durable than a mid-level or beginner cymbal.
Members Dash OH drummer
psycht summed up the main point I was gonna make Zildjian A's are thinner than Z's, so theoretically they are more durable. But if you have bad technique you'll destroy both of types. Z's are a thicker cymbal, so they are going to be louder than A's. However, A's blend, Z's cut. That's what they're designed to do. An 18" A is pretty damn loud but an 18" Z is going to be louder. Since you want loud, go with 18's or 19's. My rule of thumb with crashes is 14"-16"-18", or 15"-17"-19". I personally prefer A customs. They have a great shimmer and blend really well. Zildjian makes A custom projection crashes that still blend like an A custom but are quite a bit louder. As for hi-hats, I've heard good things about the Z-custom dyno-beats although I've never used them. Many people here, including myself, swear by A custom mastersounds but they may not be heavy enough for you. 14" hats will be sufficient for what you want. Members limelightyyz
I've tried the Z customs, but went with 14" A newbeats... more of a washy sound. Volume wasn't really a main concern to me, though the newbeats get fairly loud. The louder the cymbal is, the more it limits you. Often times its better to mic small things to make them big, rather then use a big source. Ask a guitar player about the vox ac30; its the same concept: find a sound you like best, and mic it to the volume you need.
