Members Snake Posted January 5, 2004 Members Share Posted January 5, 2004 A 14x14 will give you a little more volume while a 14x12 will give you a little more stick response. Personally, for a 14" tom, I would go with a rack tom because 1) I have a hard time "controlling" large, square toms, 2) volume can be boosted with mics (if necessary) and 3) I like smaller diameter, deeper toms and larger diameter, shallower toms. But that's just me.Custom drum makers will make just about any size drum for you. I bet most major manufacturers' top lines can be "made to order" too, but their beginner - intermediate lines are usually pretty standard. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
