Members SpiderFingers
I"m a guitarist & call me weird but I do enjoy reading MOdern Drummer magazine. It's music so it's cool. Anyways I always dig paying with a good drummer. Our current drummer is a SOLID steady drummer. Not flashy or nothing but solid as a rock. Anyways I was at a local music store & saw the Jeff Porcaro video by Starlicks & it was only $19.95 & was thinking of buying it so I could check it out as I've always enjoyed his playing (RIP). Anyways if I were to buy it just to watch it would that be a cool gift for a drummer? Also what other drumming video's would you guys recommend? Does Steve Smith have one? Members The Kid
Definitely buy it and watch it.. SEVERAL TIMES!! Just the sheer experience of watching a master like Jeff lay it down is worth more than the price! It's highly educational too (I gotta buy the DVD soon so I can watch it on the road), so it would be a great gift for a drummer, especially a young one who needs to be schooled on the masters. Members DRuM
Any porcaro video is like owning gold. Sure, steve smith has one or two. I've got one from years ago by him, can't remember the title. Dave weckls 'back to basics' - is great, David garibaldi's 'Tower of grooves' - I think it's called, anyway, I have that one, it's fantastic. Steve Gadd' Up close' - it's classic Any chuck silverman videos. Dom Famularo ( if you can stand the fake laugh ) Akira Jimbo vids, all of them are an awesome display of chops and DTX triggered songs. Dennis Chambers 'Serious moves' and 'In the pocket' And there's a video out that I want by John blackwell, he's a fantastic player. In fact, buy every video in the shop, they'll all be fun to watch. Members SpiderFingers
Thanks for the feedback. I saw the Weckl & Chambers in DVD at the store. I'll definately buy the Porcaro. I dig it man. I love watching musicians & drummers are some of those that really get me off. There was this local band (cover) that my ex manager used to play lead guitar with. Me & our bass player used to go watch them just to watch the rhythm section. Both the drummer & bassist were monstrous. The rest of the band sucked testicles but man those 2 rocked!!! VEry fat bottom.
