Members JBecker
I havent heard them, but the drummer in my band is thinking of getting one to replace his 70s Ludwig Vistalite set. That kit sounds amazing, but the damn fiberglass just doenst resonate as loud as wood and he gets lost at larger venues that dont mic him up because he's a light hitter in general. Wood kits seem to make him a lot louder. Its also a set that his dad gave him when he was like 12 and he doesnt like bringing it out of the house much or letting another band borrow the kit because he still feels like its his dad's and doesnt want anyhting happening to it. So have you guys heard of GMS? What do you think of them? Porn: Ignore the stickers, he wanted something on his batterskin so he took whatever his brother (age13) had. I think he ruined a beautiful sounding and looking kit with the Finch sticker...but oh well... We play some pretty cool shit, space-rock is the easiest way to define it. Think new Cave In +Smashing Pumpkins + Pink Floyd. **Edit*** sry about the large picture, and that's my guitar's headstock on the top left. Makes me proud ::tear::
Members Fafnir777
That is the first time I've ever heard of a wooden kit being louder than Vistalites. I played Vistalites for years, and they were MUCH louder than my wooden kits ever were. Perhaps it's how your drummer tunes his kit? If he hits light, he probably needs to tune the kit a little higher in pitch, as that will help him project more. Yes, GMS drums are really good. Members towndog
I have to agree with Fafnir on this one. I've owned several acrylic kits (note that Vistalites are acrylic and not fiberglass) and in all my experiences acrylic kits are louder than wooden kits. That being said, I have only heard one GMS kit and it sounded great but I doubt it would be "LOUDER" than your drummers current Vistalite kit. What kind of heads is he using on the Vistalites? If he is using a 2ply head he may want to try a single ply head out on one of his drums to see if that "opens" up his sound more. IMO single plys sound better on acrylic kits.. Members stapes2260
if you want loud, check out the yamaha oak custom kits - but honestly i don't think you're going to find a louder kit than an acrylic one
