Members sportjeeptj99
Hey all. At the local drum store they have a 6 piece Mapex orion orbitor kit for 899$. The guy I know there said the shells are a little thicker and that mapex changed to a thinner shell in the middle of production of the line. I have a 5 piece pacific ex right now and am really interested in getting this new one. Im going to go play on it tonight Has anyone used or have one of these kits? I dont remember the sizes right now. Thanks!

Members DarthWader
Hey man, congratulations on the new kit! I'm glad to hear you're so happy with them; Mapex makes some good drums. I like the finish, always love a good fade or burst. Anyway, congratulations once again and enjoy. Wade
Members rogers drum guy
nice kit- tobacco fade. i've been studying this kit for quite a while. i see you've got the 16" floor tom. those really growl with the spring loaded floor tom legs. the shell is actually 7ply 6mm, and it's the same construction spec as the orion. mapex seems to use thinner plys to keep the strength high but the overall shell still comes out thinner than most others. the drums that are changing are the M and Pro-M. they're both changing from maple/basswood to 100% maple. the orbiter you've got is already 100% maple and there hasn't been a production change. they've only been introduced since mid 2003. congratulations on the kit
Members rocklord
Love the finish. Mapex do make good drums. Got a Black Beauty snare which I love. The Janus wasn't for me but it played sweet
