Members Drummerboy_25
I love the sound of his hi-hat's but I'm crious of what hi-hat's he uses in his instructional video. I know this is an outdated subject but i'i've always been curious what kind of hi-hats he's using. I know the top is a Z custom but not sure what the bottom is>.....Any ideas??? Members The Professiona
Pretty sure he uses the 13" K-Z Custom rig... K on the bottom, Z on the top.
Members snaresmacker
aren't the K/Z's the other way around? not that it matters i guess; you can switch them up however you please.

Yeah, they may be... I seem to remember from pics that the Z was on the top, but I haven't looked in a long time.
Members Drummerboy_25
Yeah ya'll are right the K is on top but i do think he puts the Z custom on top. Those are the nicest sounding hi-hats i've ever heard. Might have to try them out. Thanks Elliott
Members The Professiona
You should just go to a music store where they let you play cymbals and try out a bunch of cymbals. If you like Carter's hats, I would also recommend the Sabian AAX 13" hats, and the Paiste 13" Dark Crisp hats. I use the Paiste, and they rule... a lot. Members Drummerboy_25
Yeah that's what i'm probably going to do. I'll probably stick qith zildjian tho seeing that what i'm upgrading to. Thanks again, Elliott
Members terminaldeity
Yup, its a Z on top and K on the bottom. I use the exact same setup. Not sure if he uses 13" or 14" but personally I prefer 14" Be aware that you will not get that sound just listening to them in a room. Alot of that crisp "chick-chick" comes from specific mic techniques and EQ'ing during recording.

Those hats just sound great, just like the other hats I mentioned earlier as well.
Members MikeB24311
The absolute best hats ive ever heard are 13" K mastersounds, Dennis Chambers plays them, they sound beautiful.
Members Drummerboy_25
Yeah those sound nice also. I have his common ground video with him and Tony Royster Jr. Tony's hats sound good as well. Their so many hat's to choose from I will tell ya'll what i have decided on. Members steamyz
Carter now uses a custom set-up - and does not use the K/Z combo. They have pretty large bells on them and are un-marked. His drum tech says - they are experimental....so not sure what they really are anymore. But he is known for the K/Z sound. If you listen to shows from the last couple of years you can hear the difference. The new hats are a bit darker!
Members Drummerboy_25
I seen him play Zildjian K's on some live shows. There is a slight difference between the hi-hats he uses on say busted stuff and crash or before these crowded streets. I think i'm gonna try out those K/Z's with the Z on top then maybe try out the 13" dyno beats. Thanks again Elliott
Members Ignited
I hate my dynobeats. I bought them when I first got into drumming and all I wanted to do was rock out. I have no idea how they could serve a drummer like Carter any purpose. The K/Z combination obviously worked for him, but I don't see how. I hate those damn things. Members Drummerboy_25
I think he just mostly used K/Z's not the dyno beats. That is just my 2nd choice if I don't like the K/Z's. I think my 3rd choice would have to be A rock beats or new beats in brilliant finish of course. Elliott
