Members smurfco
I am a guitarist / pianist by trade but have always wanted a set to bang around on, just to get some good rhythm and maybe one day get a nice set.... if it turns out I can't hack it, I don't want to have spent $800 on a set.... So....http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=850849%7C947289&PRID=1025790 Anybody have this set? How is it for just {censored}ing about, and learning how to drum? Members mR.dnA
I would say those probably make good targets, if you're just looking for a drumset-shaped thing to hit. For a little more (and still less than $800 to be sure) you should be able to score a used Export/Rockstar level set with decent beginner cymbals. Members Temple of Light
Check out MusicYo.com for some of the Slingerland kits. They have a five piece w/no hardware for 300.00, a full kit with isolation brackets and full hardware for 650.00 These are pretty good deals either way for some pretty decent sounding drums. And chances are, once you finally get a kit to play on, you will likely want to keep playing on them, especially if they sound good to start with. Thats why we spend thousands on a kit: to get the best possible sound, to get the best possible setup that works for our style, and to get the best possible looks to impress all our friends and lovers and clients and strangers and singers and guitar players, and drummers, and keyboard players and dj's...and....finally, ourselves... Members Ignited
Sometimes I wonder why companies make drums that are that {censored}ty. And then I wonder why people actually buy them. Bottom line is, you get what you pay for.
Members SublimeOi
one of my kits its one of those cheapo things probably similar to that, but it can actually sound good with massive tuning good heads and aquarian studio ring things... but its always better to have a good set

Members Snake
I would suggest looking for a used Tama Swingstar/Rockstar, Pearl Forum/Export, Yamaha YD/Stage Custom, Mapex V/M, Sonor 1001/3001, etc. If you're just wanting something to learn on, you'll get much better quality for your money with a used kit (in good condition) from a major manufacturer. Now THAT's funny! Some good advice on this tread so far...and none of it is recommending that you buy that thing (although it does say they're "FULL SIZED" in all-caps no less). You can do better elsewhere for the same $$. Better to get a decent used kit than a brand new pile of junk, IMHO.
Members Narsus
Bah, everyone that's posted thus far is WRONG! At $249.00 these drums are a great deal *cough*for a 9year old*cough*. Double braced hardware is needed if your *cough*9year old*cough* is going to hit them really hard and stuff. Of course, you need the FULL SIZED drums to make really loud *cough*9year old*cough* noises and stuff. Anyway, all that being said, this is a great kit for someone who you know is going to ruin it. I could see buying this kit for a kid who really wants a drumset, but you don't want to blow a bunch of money on something really nice until you're sure they're serious. If you're talking about a real band, though, you can buy a cymbal package and a pearl export series for not much more and get a MUCH better kit.
