Members MRS SMITTY00069
Okay, I finally changed my bass drum head from an OLD coated toa nice new Remo clear. It sounds SOOO much better, but (and this may sound weird) but if feels funny, not right. It's like, mushy, the bounce-back is not as responsive, I'm not getting that quick attack anymore, and to top things off, it's causing the trigger on my D-4 to double trigger. Should I be cranking the {censored} out of my lugs to tighten up that head???? Or do I need a big pillow firmly pressed up against the head from inside the shell?? What???? Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks so much
Members tangman
Ive got a Remo Pinstripe Clear on my bass drum. I have mine on a loose-medium tension because I want a low sound. I have a duvet in the drum, it takes up about 50% of the drum space and its firmly pressed up against the batter. I also have a Danmar quick pad which makes the response even quicker but im not sure if this would be advisable for you because you trigger the drum. Members Snake
Sounds like you just need to tighten the rods a little bit - not cranked, maybe just 1/8 turn per rod.

Yah, there's a fine line between keepin it low enough and keeping that action. If it's mushy, it's probably too loose.

Members Skr4ped
Are mixing a triggered signal and a mic'd signal, or are you just using the triggered signal? If you're not micing it I'd just get it tight enough so you get the response you want, and muffle the bass drum.

If you're not mixing sounds, just tighten it right up and muffle it. My kicks are stuffed to the brim. I WILL say that I did notice a difference in response when I switched from a single ply clear hear to a pinstripe, and it did take me a little bit to get used to it. Members MRS SMITTY00069
I'm only using the D-4 and the trigger, no mic. I think I see where you're going with this. Why worry about keeping a loose, low sounding bass drum, when it's sound is basically a "programed" tone. (something like that?) I'll tighten it up a bit, and add a large quilt or pillow, or DUVET and see if that fixes me up................... thanks so much, everyone!
