Members Old Steve
So did anyone dress up for Halloween? I had to go to a costume party and attached some fake hardware to myself and went as a "Do It Yourselfer". The nice part was that aside from the rubber prosthetics, I got to wear jeans, a normal shirt, and a toolbelt (most important tool: bottle opener). Much better than a "real" costume IMHO. Anyway, since I've been busting on others' photos, here's mine...best wise-assed remark wins a free AOL disk!

Members Old Steve
Here's photo #2. I'm "acting" in this one. On a side note, my kids (3 year old girl, 6 year old boy) thought I was "silly". Their friends, on the other hand....well, let's just say that they probably won't sleep too well for a few days. See you all in Hell!
Members ArtVandelay
Reminds me of those Mike's Hard Lemonade commercials from a couple of years ago. It's more than I did - I had nothing but ideas and couldn't get key pieces to make any of them work (Trump's hair or a big fake alligator to go as Steve Irwin). My son, on the other hand (10 months old in a week) was a pumpkin. Why, you may ask? Because my mother-in-law got him the costume. Did my wife and I have any say, you may ask? Guess. We had seen a cool looking jalapeno pepper costume we wanted to get for him but, nooooooooooooo. It was too late - this was in August. The topper is that the costume is sized for 18 months old and my son still fits into some 6-9 month-old stuff. So he was a floppy pumpkin.
Members CrackedDrumHead
I made myself up as this for Halloween and while passing out candy, a 13yr old girl said: "I love your music!" I said "No, I'm the Crow!" I don't know if she thought I was from Kiss or ICP????

Members ArtVandelay
Pretty cool. It struck me as a creepy Bob Ross painting - I hope that's not taken as an insult - I LOVED his show and he amazed me with his ability to create some nice work in less then 30 minutes. Also makes me miss mind-altering drugs. HEY! Just thought of a GREAT Halloween costume. It should be easy. Afro wigs are fairly easy to find these days so just put one of those on, find an appropriate outfit, and carry a pallette with some paint on it while walking around saying, "That looks like a happy tree over there." Members Old Steve
Damn, Rumble...I always figured you were "fartsy" but "artsy" too?!? Nice work. I realize that my photos didn't make it up. Here's another try...cross your fingers.
Members Old Steve
Now, I'm cookin'! Still, I have no idea how to actually get a photo from my ofoto account to post on here without saving it to my local drive and then forcing you to download. Any easy answers would be appreciated, and most likely result in a rash of stupid photo posting.

Actually, the Bob Ross thing is a bit of an insult but that's okay. His one hour paintings are a bit of a hit and miss with me these days. I used to think he rocked until I saw some art in museums and galleries that literally blew me away. Some oil painters take months to paint a picture and I think it really shows. I can't gripe about him too much cause when I was younger I used to copy his techniques. I took 10 years off from art and decided to be a scientist. Now I hate being a scientist and wanna be an artist again. Now I try to paint the old way, slow and tedious with glazes and all that jazz. The painting was taken with a really crappy digital camera, it looks a lot creepier and richer in person. I actually have a Bob Ross t-shirt that I recently bought from Target. It even says "happy trees" on it. I might do the Bob Ross thing on Halloween someday. I even have the beard. That's a really good idea.

That's a cool costume. I think all Halloween costumes should be scary. Next year I might take Art's advice and be a dead Bob Ross with a pallet full of blood and a real knife for a brush....painting pictures of dead squirrels and man-eating trees on a human canvas... Members ArtVandelay
Hey Rumble - definitely don't take my opinion on your art as criticism even in any humorous sense. Even with a really good digital camera, it's hard to tell a lot about a painting from viewing it on a monitor. It really needs to be seen in person to get the full sense of it because of the textures and the direction of the brush strokes which just can't easily be detected from a photo. This is probably why Bob Ross's stuff looks so good to so many people. That and the fact that every freakin' plant and cloud is so freakin' happy. And, if you do go with the scary Bob Ross costume like that, you should where a shirt that says "Who's happy now?!?!"

Actually, what Bob Ross could sometimes do with light, especially in dark wooded paintings, was incredible. Also, I think he paints some of the best mountains and skies I've ever seen. Distant trees and mist were another of his great strengths. However, I was never really happy with the way he painted grass and some of his trees...it sometimes looked really fake and done too quickly which was sometimes was the case because it was usually done towards the end of the show. You are a genius with your ideas. Thanks! I should have started a Bob Ross thread, eh?

Yeah, the costume was really a convenience thing...I needed one and didn't want to put much effort into it. I saw the fake bolts and blood, spent about $3 altogether, and I was in business. Bob Ross always creeped me out, but as a non-artist I was always fascinated with how quickly he was able to crank out landscapes and stuff. He obviously sees the world a whole lot differently than I do because he'd start shading things in and I'd be thinking "what the hell is that supposed to be" and after he added a couple of different shades the picture would kind of "pop" into clarity. Meanwhile, if I were to try the same thing, I'd probably have completely overlooked subtle color changes and shading. As for a halloween costume, Rumble, I think you need to go totally authentic and grow a REAL old school fro (or at least perm the crap outta your hair). Keep it real, my man. Members Thexder
In case it doesn't work Did the Robert Smith thing. I used to watch Bob Ross on television and then in later years after a bout of nostalgia I bought a few VHS tapes on Ebay. I have NO artistic ability but if nothing else, I like watching the pictures unfold in half an hour. He was weird though, painting a little rock that lives there along the shore line, with lots of happy little things happening in the painting and lots of wonderful creatures.....then suddenly maybe there's a big ole rock living just a few meters out from the shore, swimming around and all the happy clouds dancing away in the sky, never a worry.
