Members bodinski
I'm looking to upgrade my little Mapex Venus 5 piece-plus-added Titan (eww!) toms. I'm leaning pretty hard towards a double bass Sonor 3003 or maybe the Export EXR 8. Would either of these be improvement enough over what I have to warrant the upgrade? Any experiences with the hardware / adjustability / reliability of either line? I like my toms pretty close & at a minimal angle. Thanks for any input or suggestions.Peace - Bodinski
Members rca
If it were me, I would not spend the money on an export level kit. I would save until I could buy a better kit. For example, Pearl Sessions are about $1200 for a shell pack of maples. What you will notice the most is upgrading your snare, ride and hi-hats to professional quality. And you can do that a piece at a time as you get the money. If you play in a loud guitar band, I don't think you would notice a difference in the toms or kick between the Export and what you have, at least in the sound out front where it counts. If you simply have to have a new kit now, Pacific has been leading the competition for years with both a birch and maple kit priced below $1000. The talk is that the other major brands are coming out with improved kits this year to compete. These new kits may be pretty good. Guitar Center is advertising that they are clearing out the Pacific 2004 birch kits for $450.
