Members The Professiona
Hey guys,Our little piano trio was recorded two weeks ago at one of our shows. I thought I'd post one of the songs (it's actually 2 songs, one sequing into the other; my buddy who recorded didn't know to put a marker in to divide them though) for you guys' enjoyment. They're a couple of standards (played in non-standard time signatures). Enjoy! http://www.angelfire.com/jazz/daggerhart/ (Go to that page and click on the little thing that says "7 To 5") By the way, please right-click and save; I don't want to use up all the bandwidth in the first 2 minutes. Cheers!

Members pljones
Hey, nice playing! And the drums are pretty nicely recorded. (The bassist could have done with tighter micing, I reckon - and the overall level could have been higher... )
Members The Professiona
Well, when we played the gig, we didn't even know we were being recorded... it was just a little gig in a coffee shop... there's only one mic doing all the work. THanks!

Members locust tree
wow, awesome playing! that is some absolutely smoking fast jazz and you are all over that kit. and are you sure it was just one mic? i mean there is a stereo pan... it actually reminds me of the old bebop records that would have the drums in only one ear. Very cool!!!
Members DayGlo
I like it, good drumming and fun tunes.

Very cool!!! Hell, actually I'm not sure He recorded it with his minidisc recorder, so maybe he used one of those little mini stereo mics or something. I'll ask him and let you know. Thanks for the words!

Members The Professiona
Thanks for the replies everyone, especially some of you who have sent me some PMs. I do appreciate it. I have a few more songs from that show if you would like to hear it, plus another show is coming up where we're playing all original jazz (yes, really!) that I'm hoping will be recorded as well.Cheers!-B
Members The Professiona
New song is up... it'll be the last I put up for a little while since crappy Angelfire only gives you a crappy 20 megs to deal with. Members pljones
You guys play really nicely - the second track's great, too. I'd love to hear you properly mic'd up ;-)
Members Greavette
The song sounds VERY MUCH like 'Darn that Dream'... Is Dan Fischer a new guy? His playing is great! Your trio is GREAT! Do you have any CD's For sale? I seriously want one. P.S. I like how the drummer is allowed so much 'room'! Bravo

Members The Professiona
Thank you. No, we don't have a CD for sale; we just started playing together about 3 months ago. However, we are thinking about having one of those shows that the recordings are from mastered and we could sell it as a demo (there are 7 songs total from each show). And I'm the drummer, by the way
Members Mopzilla
Hey man, sounds good! "Up Jumped Spring" is one of my favorite tunes ever.. You made it sound cool. Keep up the good work!! One question though.. from the recordings I can hear you're playing with sticks and it sounds pretty loud. This one coffee shop I play at put all the jazz bands that want to play there on probation - basically we have to tone it down. I'm forced to use brushes. How do you get the volumes down and to keep the piano at a heard volume to the audience? Is the piano mic'd? All the gigs I play with anything smaller than a 5 piece band are generally played with brushes and I'm just curious on how you keep the volume in check playing with sticks. Members The Professiona
Hey there,Thanks for the compliments! I'm using sticks. It's the Jazz Cafe in Greensboro, not a standard coffee shop. They have a little mini stage and their own grand piano, so it's a little different from standard coffee shop playing. That place is probably made for listening to music. Most of the stuff I do is real small, no stage no nothin When i have to play with sticks, I use Vic Firth SD4.. real light. what about you? I have my own personal sticks that I had made by customdrumsticks.com. They are 16.25" long, .545" butt, .268" neck, tear drop bead and medium taper. They're made of hickory. They're modeled after some "Silverfox" drumsticks, but I didn't feel like paying that much for them, plus I wanted my name on them :) Cheers! -Brandon
