Members Bonita
I currently i have an old pearl export from about the early 90's late 80's. I am thinking about upgrading and was wondering what mid-range price kit either used or new would be good under about $800.00. I was thinking of an all maple but am open to suggestions. Members gcdrummer
Why do you need to upgrade? Do you have bad sound? Can't get good tone from your drums? I'm kinda anti upgrade because I have an old kit too and it sounds sweet.
Members rockbeat
Mapex M Series - all maple - $799.99 new @ Musician's Friend. I have a set of M's myself. I've had them almost a year now and I still can't believe I got this kit for the price that I did.
Members rca
You will get more bang for your buck if you upgrade your snare and cymbals. They can be used with a better kick and toms later if you "upgrade" the whole kit in the future. Most of your sound comes from your snare, kick, ride and hats. Of course maybe you already did that. Members Bonita
well i currently have a ludwig rocker bass on it because it was my first drumset and it was pieced together with the ludwig bass. basically i want to get a new drumset because the tone cannot be achieved by the current setup i have and also the drums are starting to wear alot so i want to start looking for a kit incase they decided to break or etc. thank you
Members The Professiona
Bonita,Exactly what tone are you looking for? Toms can be tuned, as can the kick... sure there's a limit, depending on the sizes, but I don't think it should limit you enough that you can't find satisfactory tones. An upgrade from your set to something that is under $800.... I just don't think you'll be able to tell a noticable difference. My suggestion is to get new heads (good heads... spend some real money on Evans G2, or Remo Pinstripes, or something), tune them well, and upgrade your cymbal collection, and then see if maybe you like the sound of your kit better. Realistically, there doesn't seem to be much point in going from a 5 or 600 $$ kit to an 800 $$. Save up instead and get a set of Yamaha Maple Customs, Ludwig Classics, Mapex Orions, or Pearl Master Series (note: I don't like Pearl, but you may...).
