Can i play pattens but how? i don't want to play rock beats anymore what patterns can i do with the melodies? What drummer names that you know that don't play rock beats but play patterns or drum arrangements that is not rock beats or a groove beat i don't want to play rock beats or anything with a kick drum, hi hat or ride, and snare i want to play more melodic and have it be a pattern or a arrangement who does this type of drumming? Members rockbeat
Seems to me that what you're describing is more of a percussionist than a drummer. I mean, strip away all the parts of a kit that you mentioned not wanting to use and what you are left playing is a set of toms...like a percussionist. Members Fishedz
the only thing i can think of is check out ethnic styles of playing. there's plenty out there that utalize rythm/arrangements on the toms, hi hats, cowbell etc... do a search on world music on amazon and check out the sound samples or something. Members rca
Drums drive the music by laying down a beat for the band. If you don't want to do that, you got two choices. 1. Play as a soloist. 2. Play a different instrument. Here is a link to a site of one of the leading soloists in the world. She plays all types of percussion including drumset. Check out some of her music. http://www.evelyn.co.uk/

If the stuff she's doing can't inspire you to be creative with percussion, maybe it's time to take up fishing. Walters, it seems like you're asking us "how can I be creative". Sadly, you're either creative or your not. Actually, MOST people are more creative than they think they are, but they're too inhibited or worried about being embarassed for "not doing it right" to try and create. Creativity, in large part, is all about trying the "wrong" way to invent a "new right way". Like the cheesy Nike ads say, just do it...there's no "learning" creativity, it's all about getting down to actually sitting down and trying stuff. Members alasdairpal
Josh Klinghoffer. He plays on John Frusciante's (RHCP guitarist) solo albums, and I feel he a welcome change to just pounding mindlessly. have a look at http://www.johnfrusciante.com/frameset.php , click on play music and select Loss or A Doubt to see what I mean. He very rarely uses the bass drum, but still provides enough power to drive the song. Very melodic, even from an uneducated guitarists point of view Hope this helps. Members magooly
Walters- it is impossible to play anything other than rock beats on drums. More specifically, rock beats that groove. It is just outside of the scope of the instrument, it can't be done. Perhaps the folks at open jam will know of an instrument that is capable of not playing rock beats

No one has any idea what you're talking about. Exactly. His questions are answered just fine when he stays in this plane of reality, however when he veers off into the land of schizoidia and disassociativia, he leaves us scratching our heads and looking like a dog that's just been told a knock-knock joke. Members greendoor
Walters created a stink in the recording forum, and actually got all his threads deleted - which is almost unheard of over there. Autism possibly, although if you try to help him you will regret it. A new form of mega troll I think - he can tease as long as you've got ... his secret weapon is pretending to be pathetic, which is quaranteed to get at least 1 persons sympathy at any 1 time. Walters style is to ask a question so lame that you actually have to some mastery of the subject to be so lame. The question is asked and then actually answered with a secret code language known only to Walters - usually ACCENTED with capitals. Subsequent attempts to really answer the question will be greeted with denials, unless you choose the right words that Walters has chosen. Any real help will be dismissed - you can't win. Enjoy while it lasts, but don't lose any sleep over this dude.
