Members onehourburn
OK, THe guy I jam with for fun broke his snare head... He is looking at Evans, Remo, or Aquarion...He is not sure on what models to look at from these companies. What would you recommend for metal. Over time I am sure he will try out many heads and come to have a favorite but he is in the dark cause this is his first time to have to replace. Thanks for the help. His drum set is a Pearl Forum or Export not sure. The snare is painted just like the toms. Music styles of the likes- Metal, MetalCore, Thrash, Death, and European black/death onehourburn
Members magooly
What Kind of Snare is it? Shell Composition? Depth? Theres more than just the head to account for. A good all-around choice would be Evans Genera Dry or Evans Power Center Reverse Dot- Both Coated
Members MightyBricklayer
what kind of drum? are y'all intending to gig, or record? we've got virtually no information, outside of drumhead needed and a broad stereotype of what kind of music your drummer plays. What kind of metal? What's the drummer's technique and preference?

What would you recommend for metal. You are asking which brand to use. Any major brand makes good heads, so its not really useful advice to say "Remo" or "Evans." But they all make many different kinds of heads. That is why you are getting the questions. They want to suggest some models.
Members Jessz1
Evans Powercenter, or really any two ply head. Remo offers the emperer X and powerstoke3/4. Heads are cheap try a few and see what works.
Members LowandLoudx97
my favorites Texture Coated Aquarian with Power dot or The power house by aquarian. I found the Hi energy head to be way to dead for my taste and I broke it faster than a regular head. . . but really you cant go wrong with any of these companys stuff , good tuning , playing, and equipment is more important ..... Consider that that's kinda like going to the guitar forum and saying "Hey guys, our guitarist is looking for a new guitar, he trusts Gibson, Ibanez, and BC Rich, what one would be good for rock?". That said, I have no experience with heads, so I'll shut up now.

If that was the question I would give him the exact model that I thought was the best also explaining why I thought it was the best and hope that will give him an idea of that guitar... I know that everyone is differant but it helps to get others Ideas and opinions to get a starting place. onehourburn

Members Ignited
Pretty much anything with a "power center" or "power dot" will perform well for metal drumming. They hold up well and will give you plenty of volume.
Members locust tree
i'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that if he broke a head, he's a pretty hard hitter. There's a lot of snare heads out there that are nice n' tough for that kind of playing style. Evans makes a head called the ST (stands for Super Tough.) I've heard good things about this one. Remo makes the Emperor X... i've heard mixed reviews. And Aquarian makes the Hi-Energy head. I know drummers who swear by them. I also know drummers who say that it's a very dead sounding head. It's trial and error, baby.
Members Stevis
Any of the major companies Remo, Evans, Aquarian will make a good head for whatever. For the metal sound that you are looking for I recommend getting an Emperor X by Remo. They are thick and have balls to them yet give a nice popping sound to the snare. I myself use the emperor X and am more than satisfied. They aren't as responsive as some other head, but from the styles he plays (metalcore) which is hard hitting music the Emeror X is built to last a while.
