Members ZigZagWanderer Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 Just curious--how have high gas prices affected bands that either tour or play a lot of out-of-town shows? Are you all touring/travelling less? Or has it made any difference at all?
Members mixmasterjames Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 aint u seen the commercial where the kids are touring on the van running on vegetable oil? get wit the friggin program man vege oil for the win
Members ZigZagWanderer Posted February 22, 2006 Author Members Posted February 22, 2006 Sorry, man. I don't have a TV.
Members mixmasterjames Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 oh well the basic gist is they modded out their old van for a tank to run on vege oil and they go to restaurants and take the used oil after asking the owner then they power up and after 5 mins u can switch from regular gas to vege oil and cruise all the way

Members BlueStrat Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 With the cost of fuel and everything else it affects, I wouldn't even consider traveling again unless I had a specific reason or goal, and that goal was realistic and attainable in the near term. In other words, I wouldn't just put together a string of clubs on the road to go play just to go play them and "increase my exposure." It's only going to get more expensive, so the bands that survive are going to be the ones who have an above average product to deliver and have found a smart way of delivering it to maximize results while minimizing expense. A lot of bands die because they have no plan other than to take the "shotgun approach" of just booking a bunch of dates anywhere they can get them and hope they can get some sort of following. The bands who are surviving long term have a strategy and a plan with short term with marker goals, so that they can identify when their plan is working. And they always have an end in mind. Before you travel, too, I'd make sure my band was all on the same page in every way i could. Youd be surprised at how many bands have "goals". yet if you asked each member what the goal was, you'd get a different answer from each guy. That's kind of like playing basketball with 5 guys, but with only three knowing where the goal is, and only two knowing what winning looks like, and none having any idea how to score points. You'd be wasting your time to even suit up. Some bands are the same way.
