Members peaveyfan
I'm needing some help here. I am wanting a drum machine/metronome that I can program different time signatures in one song. Take "Dream Theater" or "Rush" for example. If my band is doing a cover of some of their tunes, I need a piece of equipment that will allow me to program all of the time changes and signatures, or meters and patterns, however you want to label it. I was told to get a Yamaha Clickstation, then a Boss DR-90. I have purchased both and neither of them seem to do it. I can change tempo, I just can't program the tempo, time, pattern in the same song. Today Guitar Center told me to pick up either an Alesis SR-16, or a Boss DR-3, but leaning more towards the Boss. I got to play around with it a little, but did not have enough time to get the full effect. If either of these will work, let me know which one would be better. I can get them both for the same price. If neither of them will work, I need to know what would. I also don't want to drop $200-$300 into one of these, but if I absolutely have to, then I have to. Thanks for your help.
Members 1001gear
I think your best and most practical bet is to sequence the stuff and run the machine off that.

Members rawcane777
Did you ever get an answer for this? Unbelievably 12 years later it seems sr16 and dr3 are still the only options and neither of them has a way to save to external storage so actually no better than the Yamaha RY30 or Kawai r50e I had in the 90s. Phil O'Keefe
You can change the pattern length with the SR-16, which allows you to do all sorts of time signatures. https://getsatisfaction.com/alesis/topics/can-someone-explain-how-to-program-an-sr-16-in-different-time-signatures As far as saving / reloading the data for external storage, you can do that too using sysex data dumps and loads. https://www.alesis.com/kb/article/1576
